Re: urgent age of empires 2 questions

Your message isn't very clear. What you seem to be saying is that you cannot download Gamranger due to not having an extension. OSX does not use extensions. I would suggest to just try downloading it, looking for a game, try joining and see what happens.

If it doesn't work and your not sure what the problem is, try playing another game on GameRanger and see if that works. If it does you can isolate it to the the individual game itself, and not an extension of some sort.

If your unfamiliar with how to join games on GameRanger it usually involves you to manually enter the IP address of the host. At least classic games do that i've noticed.

Note sure if any of this helps. But if you have more questions try to be more clear on what your saying. big_smile

Re: urgent age of empires 2 questions

this is the read me file..

GameRanger Net Install.

Double-click the GameRanger icon to download, install and launch the latest version.

GameRanger requires an internet connection, and MacOS 8.6 or later. Under MacOS 8.6 through 9.2.2, GameRanger also requires CarbonLib 1.5 or later.

What is it?

GameRanger is a multiplayer online gaming service. As well as being
Macintosh-only, it is the only service of its kind on the Macintosh.

GameRanger provides a central place for players to meet, chat, and organize
internet games. Some of the features include chat rooms, game rooms, audio
voice chat, paging, instant match-making, player searching, and seamless
game launching.

<http://www.GameRanger.com/>

so it says it requires carbon 1.5 or later with comes in the age of empires 2 disk but i dont thin k it installs it at the same time. bc it just says wat site to go to on the  disk

Re: urgent age of empires 2 questions

It says it requires carbon IF YOU ARE RUNNING MAC OS 8.6 THROUGH 9.2.2.

If you are running Mac OSX, you do NOT need Carbon!

Beyond that, I'm at a loss.  I NEVER use third-party game services (like GameRanger or GameSpy Arcade.  Can anyone else help?

Re: urgent age of empires 2 questions

Well, for instance with Age of Empires 2, I only play with people I know.  One of us creates a game, we pass around the server IP, and everyone connects.  There isn't a server browser in AoE2, like there is in games like UT2k4.  If the game has a server browser (again, like UT2k4), I just use that.

When you created your online game in AoE2, no one connected because they didn't know it was there (no server browser).

Try redownloading GameRanger.  You might've not gotten the entire package, so it doesn't show up correctly as an installer.

Re: urgent age of empires 2 questions

From what you said before, you never installed it to begin with.  If it wasn't installed, you don't need to uninstall it.

Re: urgent age of empires 2 questions

Its a small application, like half a megabyte or so compressed. ("stuffed") I could email it to you and see it that works. Let me know. Just Private Message me if you want it.

Re: urgent age of empires 2 questions

CLICK TO DOWNLOAD GAMERANGER

Download and run installer. It is a ZIP file, so you won't have any issues opening, I don't think.

Re: urgent age of empires 2 questions

Guys, if it is a ZIP file, it is probably a PC file, not the Mac version.

Re: urgent age of empires 2 questions

No, I just tried this on my PC.  It is DEFINITELY a Mac installer.  Just because it has a .zip file extension on the archive doesn't mean that the contents are PC-only.  .Zip files aren't PC-only, either.

Re: urgent age of empires 2 questions

I thought I had this installed, but it turns out I deleted it. Anyway I downloaded it again, but I'm now getting the same thing as dillking. It is a zip file which is fine since stuffit handles those. But it doesn't give you all the files. It just unstuffs some blank (no icon) files which when clicked on ask you which program you want to open them in.

I'm just as confused as dillking now because not more than a few months ago I DL'ed gameranger and it opened and installed fine.

Are you using Stuffit Expander to unzip it? If so, what version? Some older versions of Stuffit were pretty ignorant about zip files created by OSX itself.
