Conterfeit Mini Commercial
Have any of you seen that really lame commercial on TV? It's about how to spot a counterfeit Mini Cooper, but it sounds like either a scam or some joke from a car insurance company and they haven't put the punchline version of the commercial out yet.
You can check out their web site at www.counterfeitmini.com.
I am sick of the commercial and I want to know whats up.

They are actually quite roomy. I can put the seat so far back, that I can't reach the petals. I am 6'5".

Mini's are pretty cool, but that is based on look entirely. I have never driven one, or even rode in one

Mini's are reported sit seat a 6'7" person comfortably. I would buy one in a heartbeat, provided someone gave me the cash

Experts can uncover a MINI imposter by tracking its Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). But the most effective way to spot a fake is by simply checking to see if the vehicle is ugly
What a coincidence, that's the exact same method I use to spot a real MINI.

My friend has an orange '76 with checkered flag airbrushing. It is quite the fun car. I can only imaging how fun it would be to drive a new one. I have one of their first ads which was a fake milk carton you used to make an excuse to go motor. They also have a "Top Down" campaign where they had a number to report people driving their Minis top up.

What's really funny is that I've only seen a Beetle being eaten up on the track by everyone else.

The 170Hp Turbo S beetle would very comparable to the Copper S
If you want to compare new base models:
2006 New Beetle : 150@5000 hp
2006 Cooper: 115@6000 hp
The base VW would own the base Cooper

In just 0-60 times, the base 06 Beetle is similar to the base 06 Cooper, the Cooper slower by .1 second, due to the Beetle's extra 300 pounds or so. Same goes for the MCS and Turbo S Beetle, with the MCS winning, I would expect, also due to less mass.
Notice I did say on the track. I've never seen a stock Beetle carry any speed through a corner. The extra weight, and the suspension setup puts the Beetle way behind the MINI.
Both are great cars, but the truth is that the Beetle and the MINI are completely different cars for completely different people. The MINI is for those looking for fun in a car. The Beetle is more for...hmm, I actually don't know. I was never in the cult of Beetles. Anyone care to fill in here?
P.S. Sorry for leading this thread even more off topic, but I can't just let the MINI be put in the same class as the Beetle.

Re: Conterfeit Mini Commercial
The MINI's wheel base is too short to be compared to a Beetle. They aren't even the same class. It is like me saying that my Mustang is faster than your Ranger.

wheel base: 1.6 inches. Oh god, the poor children. That is such a difference. It's like comparing an SUV to a mustang. Go smurf your self. The beetle is a 2-door hatchback in the Sub-compact class. Guess what the Cooper is a 2-door hatchback in the sub-compact class.
Comparable cars in this class: Volkswagen Beetle
see:http://www.familycar.com/RoadTests/MiniCooper/
So the beetle is 300~ pounds heavier, but you know what 40 of that is the full size spare.

And the other 260 is...?
In short, I cannot fit into Beetles. It is an impossibility. Just like and S2000. I can't even close the damn door on those bitches.

Re: Conterfeit Mini Commercial
The Beetle and the MINI should be considered as being in different classes. Sure, the Beetle felt just like any other car, but after just a bone stock MINI Cooper, I knew I needed a MINI. It's not fast in straights, but it can eat up corners like mad.
Plus, the two cars are aimed at very different people, which can be seen from both of the official sites. On the MINI site, there is a guide to the "asphalt arts," or performance driving. On the New Beetle mini-site, there is this "force of good" thing going on. Take a look at http://www.miniusa.com/link/motoron/freestyle and http://72.3.224.223/index.php
See the difference?

They are aim at different people, yes. But they are still in the same class. The Escalade and the Yukon are aim at different people too. THEY ARE IN THE SAME CLASS.
The Mini and the beetle are very similar:
-Both cult cars
-Both have been called cute
-Both German
-Both are nothing like the originals except a vague visual resemblance.
-Both compete with the PT Cruizer
