Range Extending and Airport Express
Currently I've got a mixed (PC/Mac) wireless network in my home. I use a Netgear g router.
I've got 2 problems to solve.
1) My friend who lives downstairs wants to share my broadband connection (yes, he's willing to pay), but he gets a weak signal (I guess my floors are made of lead or kryptonite).
2) I don't own an Airport Express. Ok, that's not REALLY a problem, so to speak. But I want one, dammit.
So, my question is, would I be able to buy an Airport Express and use it as a range extender for the Netgear? Or vice-versa?
If not, how else would y'all suggest extending the range of my Netgear device.
BTW, getting an Airport Express AND Airport Basestation is not an option. This unemployed cook can't afford to go there.

Re: Range Extending and Airport Express
If netGear makes a range extender use that. Most range extenders work with the same brand equipment only.

Only if MetalManiac's ISP doesn't allow it. And even then, it's not illegal. It's just violating the ISP's rules.

If his friend is in the same house, it ain't no problem.
Furthermore-so, since you want to extend the range of the network in the house, run a piece of cat 5 ethernet cable from your netGear router down the stairs or through the floor and put any wireless access point (yes-even an AirPort Express) on the other end.
Your friend will have a real good connection, then.

THANKS FOR THE LAUGH
its a utility that a roomate is helping cover, most ISP disallow rebroadcasting your access outside your premises, and resilling that access. so any wireless network just about violates part of that.
heres a good site that may help: http://socalfreenet.org
the last guys post is the best way to go, if you wnat to run cables.
Please Don't make my brain hurt, ask logical, thought out, and well worded questions.
