Tiger Update Woes with internet
i insalled Tiger yesterday on a powermac g4, dual 1.42 processor, 512 megs of ram. It was installed as an upgrade, from 10.2.
After the install, safari will not connect to the internet, though firefox does.
Software update will not connect to apple support servers, though I can logon with firefox and download updates.
Dashboard widgets won't connect to the pertinent servers they need.
I'm pretty confused. Anyone have any insight?

Have you tried repairing disk permissions? That may work.

So it worked, or did you already try that and it didn't do anything?

Zoinks- already did that too. So, I've attempted the repair permissions route, as well as the archive and install (that is, reinstall) route, and that was unsuccessful as well.

archive and install
perhaps
TTP or Diskwarrior will put it right without re-installing.

Re: Tiger Update Woes with internet
It looks like this is a settings problem. If the problem was with general connectivity, you wouldn't be able to use Firefox. Look at the Internet pane in System Preferences. Does anything look wrong? I think Firefox uses seperate proxy settings from the rest of the system, so if the proxy tab is badly configured that would explain your symptoms.

Re: Tiger Update Woes with internet
Trying to recall off the top of my head, but if you delete/relocate the following:
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.networkConfig.plist
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration
It will reset all of your Network/Airport/Proxy settings to default. You won't break your system and render it un-bootable by removing these files, but if you are still paranoid you can just relocate them rather than trashing them all together.

I'm still trying to figure out if you're a girl posing as Macboy4139, or a boy posing as a girl, and a bit confused sexually. <shrug> laughinol

You're right. Sony has better industrial design. Besides, I hated that blonde stoner.
