R.I.P. Eddie Guerrero (WWE)
It's been awhile since I watched any wrestling myself, but regardless.
MINNEAPOLIS - Eduardo Gory Guerrero, a World Wrestling Entertainment superstar was found dead in his hotel room Sunday in Minneapolis, where he was scheduled to appear that evening in a WWE Supershow. He was 38.
When he didn't respond to a wake-up call, hotel security at Minneapolis Marriott City Center and Guerrero's nephew and fellow WWE wrestler, Chavo Guerrero, forced their way into the room, police said.
There were no apparent signs of foul play or suicide, police said. An autopsy was planned at the Hennepin County medical examiner's office.
He was a featured star on the UPN series "WWE Smackdown!" and son of Mexican wrestler Gory Guerrero.
Chavo Guerrero and McMahon said Guerrero was open about his past drug and alcohol abuse but they said he'd been sober for four years.
In February 2004, Guerrero became the second wrestler of Hispanic heritage to be WWE champion when he defeated Brock Lesnar, a former University of Minnesota wrestling standout. Guerrero lost the title four months later.
In May 2004, UPN aired the special "Cheating Death, Stealing Life: The Eddie Guerrero Story." The one-hour program chronicled his childhood and his struggle with drug addiction that almost cost him his job, family and life before his recovery and eventual capture of the WWE championship.

That's sad. I always pulled for him because he overcame when others didn't. I live in a wrestling town (home of the Hart Foundation) so this will be even sadder news.

I'll never forget about Owen Hart since it happened here and the way it happened makes it stick in your head that much more.

Pepper was Al Snow's dog, not Eddie Guerrero's, that he was fed by the Big Bossman in one of the worst feuds ever.

Oh yeah! I mix the two up sometimes. It's been years since I have watched wrestling because I enjoyed it. Now I flip it on only to make fun of it. Much like my local news station.

They suspect cariac arrest. He was found in the morning, on the bathroom floor with his toothbrush in his mouth (there's an inappropriate joke in there somewhere). Chances are, he never even knew what happened.

Hes been in a lot of shows the last months. When you hear how hard that life is on those wrestlers, its amazing they last as long as they do. Probably was heart failure or something. Guess i'll have to watch Smackdown this week for sure.

How about you smurfs show some respect. For your uneducated minds, Eddie did battle with taking meds and addictions in the past, but he won that battle; in fact Nov 15th would have been his 4 years being clean and sober. Making jokes at the man's expense shows just how pathetic of human beings you are. He has a family, he's got a wife, and 3 daughters, one of which is 2 years old. What do you think it's going to be like growing up and not being able to know her father? But, o wait, let's tell her one of your jokes and see if she laughs. I don't f'in think so.

Re: R.I.P. Eddie Guerrero (WWE)
A similar thing happened to my mothers cousin. He used a lot of drugs in his day, and dropped dead of an anyeurism at 45 (46?). Eddie may have staved off his addictions, but that stuff damages you permenantly and so does steroids - fwiw, wrestling ain't exactly easy on the cardiovascular system either.
GodzFire, I'd say he far from "won" his battle with drugs - they probably are what killed him. I'll give him kudos for staying sober as long as he did, but when it comes to drug addiction, there is no such thing as winning.
edit - good god, I sound like an after school special.

I have a feeling it was an aneurysm. If he had a heart attack, I doubt the toothbrush would have stayed in his mouth. Very sudden, and hopefully, painless.
I mourned hard when Owen Hart died six years. And I'm mourning now. Eddy was one of a handful of guys who kept me watching wrestling. Amid all the stupid storylines of the past few years, it was always a joy to watch Eddy in the ring. Last night's Raw was really sad, watching these larger-than-life men bawling their eyes out for their friend. I have a feeling some of these guys will be re-evaluating their careers and whether or not they want to end up the same way.

Is this the guy who "lied, cheated, and stole" - and sprayed the big show with manure?
Not asking out of disrespect (it was all part of the act) - just trying to figure out who he was, I so rarely have seen pro wrastling.

I have not watched WWE since McMahon bought out WCW, but I have tuned in once every great while. I did check in briefly last night - it was easy to tell some of the guys were having a very tough time "staying in character."

Re: R.I.P. Eddie Guerrero (WWE)
He was the one with the "lie, cheat and steal" motto. He took flack for it but given his high morals and religious beliefs, he was able to get away with it.
Last night there was an anecdote about his lying, cheating and steeling. Jerry Lawler had asked him, if he always lies, what would he put on his score card if he got a hole-in-one in golf. He said, with a big smile "I'd put a ZERO". That was typical of his new found attitude of always enjoying life and making people laugh. I think he will be sorely missed, both in the wrestling world and beyond.
BTW, I think he would have found the Colgate joke funny. Humor is one of the ways people deal with emotion. In a few of the interviews last night, people remembered funny things about Eddie, making them smile despite their pain. Regardless of that fact, let's remember, he was a family man, a human being and was loved outside the ring by many who are hurting right now so let's keep the jokes to a minimum, out of respect for them.

Re: R.I.P. Eddie Guerrero (WWE)
In case you were wondering, the autopsy report stated 'massive heart failure' as the cause of his death, due to his drug and alcohol abuse. On a side note, part of the reason listed for his heart failure was the amount he worked out. His heart grew bigger and bigger and the walls of the heart and adjoining arteries grew thinner as a result. Similar thing happened to a runner friend of mine. He ran daily and finally his heart gave out. Massive heart failure, in great shape.

heh
my uneducated mind.. yet he is the one that started abusing himself. regardless of cleaning up, he had no one to blame but himself. if an ex drug abuser is your idea of a role model, you have my sympathies.
he was an actor and public figure... which makes him fair game.
no disrespect in a joke.

No disrespect in a tasteful joke, done to alleviate pain through laughter. However, I completely disagree with the 'fair game' statement. It's one that has always bothered me. Because someone becomes popular and good at what they do they become less than human? Would you make a joke about a friend's passing, to the family no less, if he or she were a past drug user or athlete? He was a role model for many latino children, not for his addictions but for his ability to overcome, find God, find peace and happiness and carry on, despite overwhelming odds. It's easy to be a role model if you're a Tom Brady (no disrespect to Tom), who's had everything handed to him on a silver plater his whole life and the only adversity he's faced is their 5-4 start this year. A hero is someone who is afraid but does it anyway. Someone who faces their demons and defeats them, depsite the odds against them. Make no mistake, he caused his own demise through drugs and alcohol but it doesn't mean that his passing should be ridiculed nor made light of because he 'deserved it' or he was a celeb. Remember, there are children who will grow up without a dad now and a wife who supported him through the tough times, who has lost a devoted and loving husband. Don't crucify him for his mistakes, praise him for overcoming and correcting his mistakes. A joke and a smile during tough time is helpful. A jab at a dead man and his family for the sake of someone's amusement or for ratings (as in the case of ESPN) is unacceptable.

remove your blinders son
it was a joke.
people die every day leaving kids and spouses.
it's reality.
your opinion is it's unacceptable.
others have laughed.
"poor little children never knowing their father" story won't cut it. I have more empathy for the soldier that never comes home.
he died of a result of how he lived his life. that is fact, not a judgement.
laugh son. your blood pressure will thank you.
and you have less worry wrinkles.
I'm still laughing and will be long after your cardiac arrest.
