Re: Espresso! I gggot an espppressso Mmaakkkerrr!!!

I like coffee.

Edit: I just wanted to add in a little humor to all this.  I think you're all taking yourselves way too seriously.  Pithe...whatever I can't remember how to spell your name, I would love to try some of your coffee sometime.  I've never met a roaster before.

I've been drinking coffee for a while now and my favorite kind is still Sumatra, then Kenyan.  That is some good stuff.  My girlfriend is a barista at a local coffee shop, so I learn a lot about coffee.  As for espresso, whatever bean or roast I got in Spain is still some of my favorite, I swear it was stronger than what I get stateside.  I really don't know what it is, but ever since being back from Spain, I haven't enjoyed the espresso here as much.  But anyway, I have a Bialetti Moka Express stovetop espresso maker.  Its pretty fun to use.  I don't drink much espresso, but every once in a while if I feel like cleaning the thing and taking all that time I'll have a cup.  I'd rather just go to a coffee shop and get a latté or a mocha done right, but that's personal preference.

Enjoy your coffee or whatever you drink.

You should use exclamation marks instead of question marks in your description.

I wanna try the one where the goats eat the beans and poop 'em out and then they pick up the beans and roast 'em and make the coffee.

At least roasting them burns off the poop.

It's a cat, not a goat.  And the coffee is called Kope Luwak.

Cat, goat, I don't care. It's coffee that came out of an animal's butt, so I gotta try it!

Re: Espresso! I gggot an espppressso Mmaakkkerrr!!!

I want to try putting different styles of coffee in my stovetop espresso maker.  Millstone makes a Kahlúa & Vanilla Creme coffee that is quite tasty through a regular drip coffee machine.  I wonder what it would be like through an espresso maker...

Has anyone tried anything like this?  What have been your results?

putting normal coffee into an espresso maker will just give you really strong coffee.

it is a flavored coffee, not an alcoholic beverage.... the flavor oil is added to the beans after roasting and any alcohol in the flavor is allowed to evaporate.

I have this Gaggia machine although I got it cheaper than that price, and I use thisHausbrandt coffee.

Re: Espresso! I gggot an espppressso Mmaakkkerrr!!!

WARNING!!

If you use flavored beans in your espresso maker, the next bunch of shots will taste like it.  In fact, if you brew flavored beans through anything, the flavor will remain and transfer to the next few batches of coffee.

The stuff I use to flavor beans is an extract which contains no natural flavor, it is all chemical.  It is not so much flavor as perfume.  You smell vanilla and your brain tells you that you're tasting it.  The formula is one fluid ounce to five pounds of coffee.  I hate making flavored coffee, but we carry it because it sells.

Your best bet is to buy a bottle of flavor like you see at a coffee house (Torani, DaVinci, whatever) and add it to your coffee.

Actually, your best choice would be to stop drinking flavored coffee.  Coffee is supposed to taste like coffee, not like Kahlua & Cream.  You want coffee that tastes like Kahlua?  Add Kahlua.

Damn straight, I enjoy "blowing" my friend's minds when I ask them to try their flavoured coffee with their noses plugged.

yep.
also, if you use flavored coffee, and normal coffee, do yourself a favor and get a different grinder for the flavored coffee, even if its just one of those $10 generic blade grinders, don't use your burr style grinder for flavored coffee, unless you want the next couple of batches to taste like flavor, and the couple after that to have a stale, somewhat rancid flavor.

Re: Espresso! I gggot an espppressso Mmaakkkerrr!!!

A month or two ago I accidently bought a can of Medallia d'Oro decaf espresso.  Kicked myself for not noticing that it was decaf.

I really wanted a cappuccino tonight, but I work REALLY early in the morning.  I finally opened it - I'm not kicking myself anymore.  http://homepage.mac.com/oatmeal/MAF/maxes/java-cheers.gif

Re: Espresso! I gggot an espppressso Mmaakkkerrr!!!

I buy pretty much exclusively Starbucks beans, and they have told me any Dark Roast makes a pretty good espresso. In some ways, I actually prefer the Italian Roast in my espresso machine than the Espresso Roast. It's a little darker/stronger, but gets a nice flavor in a mocha et al.
