Ya, personaly I dont care about Macs gaining market share.
As long as there is a rich developer comunity like there is now I am happy.
I cant think of one single type of software that I would want that I cant get on my Mac.

Agreed. I hate how Macs are passed off as only being good for graphics.

I don't see any real benefits from our marketshare rising. And I can visualize some disadvantages.

I think double digits would be nice, but beyond that, yeah, its kinda nice being a niche market.
Yeah, there are fanatics and zealots in the midst, but I think that's actually needed sometimes.

Games, but if you want that, buy a Windows box or one of the three gaming platforms. Easy solution, and doesn't it make sense to separate work from play?

I'd like to see about a 15% marketshare. It's not high enough to encourage viruses, but it is high enough to make an impact on bastardized Mac versions of software.

I think we'll get viruses as soon as the Intel hardware comes out. That said, I'm not too terribly worried about it. Apple has designed their OS to be a little smarter in the way it handles programs that could alter the computer. If I don't give a program permissions to smurf with my computer, it won't be able to do anything. There will always be idiots out there who allow a virus to destroy their computer every 3 months, but they are becoming more and more of a minority. No worries.

Why in the world do you NEED Access?
Filemaker Pro, MySQL etc. Can meet and exceed the casual database users needs as is, and PostgreSQL, Oracle etc. are what a corporation SHOULD be using when they need more power. Why in the worlds would you actually WANT to use Microsoft Access?
There is some solace in knowing that some things just can't be attained by throwing piles of money at them in the name of corporate greed. --CaptKevMan

It is kind of fun being in this small, rare, exclusive club with a bunch of people with good taste and an appreciation for style and elegance. It would be a shame to share it with a bunch of drones who don't appreciate it.

Re: I don't want our market share to raise
I would like to see OS X rise to a much greater marketshare than it is at now. I don't care about exclusive clubs or any of that sort of crap. I care about the platform being viable into the future and Apple being proftable enough to deliver new and interesting products.
The idea that we should be happy where we are (or in a slightly better position) horrifies me. This isn't a club. This is a business. We're not priveleged to be Mac users. We paid money and anyone else can too.
As for viruses - they're much more a function of the OS than the hardware. Expecting OS X viruses as soon as we go to x86 is a bit silly, unless Apple rewrite the fundamental OS to allow massive security holes. Hardware plays a part, yes, but the prevalence of Windows viruses doesn't indicate a coming OS X virus explosion.

You don't buy what is junk.
You find what is usable through quality software reviews - and user forums.

I actually like being in a small group like this. As long as it's not too small.
As one MAF member put it:
"Apple should have only as much marketshare as it needs to further development, and none more"
Or something along those lines.
