I took the SATs in 7th grade. The only reason was for that Duke whatever "talent identification program"... I never did anything with it until right before my senior year I went to one of their summer camps for creative writing... which was absolutely 100% awesome.

But otherwise... kind of dumb.

There is a state test in Utah called the SAT for 8th and 11th graders, but it is a different test.  Utterly useless.

I too took them. I got a 990. I did it for TIP as well. I might go to a TIP program, because I hear tell that they are awesome.

I did not. I personally thought the SATs were stupid all together. Some people stress out so much and have their lives revolve around the SAT test, but the reality is, once you get into college, it makes no difference.

I took it in 8th grade through the "Midwest Talent Search", some Northwestern program.  I did really well but nothing ever came of it.

I did PSAT in 9th grade, 10th, and 11th?  Not bad for prep.  As long as the folks keep it in perspective, it is good.  It gives you direction at an early age, but do not let it stress you (that is the way my folks took it).  I really cannot remember the SAT scores I got, but they were pretty good.  Just remember that practice helps, but do not get too wound up in the number game.  A well rounded student who is smart will go a lot further in life and college than a neurotic teen who only lives for the numbers.

PSATs are only good for National Merit.  National Merit is worthless.

smurf the National Merit scholarship. You'd think that something called "National Merit" would be merit based, but they use your FAFSA to decide how much money to give you. My PSAT was through the  roof and they still gave me the absolute minimum amount of money. Bastards. Just because my father had a good job, I got screwed.

I never took the SATs.  ACT scores are used in this part of the country.  Either way, taking such a test in the 7th grade is likely to do much for you.

I don't think so.  All of the colleges I have looked out weighted scores on tests like the SAT almost as highly as they weighted GPA.
