Re: SAT's in 7th grade?
a lot of school also have a minimum SAT score that you must get in order to be admitted. I know here at Texas A&M it's like 1300 for automatic admit. And then depending on your class ranking it could be lower or higher... like if you are top 10% I think it's 1000 or something stupid like that... I dunno. I didn't really care about my SATs. All my friends took them at least three times and I took it once in the summer and I didn't really care. I had automatic admit to my school because I was top 5% of my high school. I was more interested in working and making money at the time, haha.

Re: SAT's in 7th grade?
The PSATs can be very useful; it mainly depends what university you want to go to. If you are a National Merit Finalist, you can get a full-ride to many schools. However, some universities will not give out scholarships to National Merit Finalists. For example, the Ivy League schools will not give out any merit-based scholarships
, so taking the PSATs will not save you any money. In this respect, it is somewhat similar to AP or IB classes; depending on the school, they might help you out alot or they might merely pad your resume to help you get accepted.
Unless you are applying to some summer program that requires it, it seems completely useless for a 7th grader to take the SATs. Obviously one is not going to be able to score as high on the SATs in 7th grade as they will in the 11th or 12th grade, so I see little point to take them in junior high. Plus, you will be putting a lower SAT score on your record.
Then again, I took the SATs in 2001 before they changed the format. So the rules might have changed and thus invalidate everything I said...

I personally hate standardized tests. Isn't 7th grade a bit early to even think about the SAT? I did not even worry about those until my junior year of high school. Besides colleges do not really care about standardized test scores, they mostly look at your grades and GPA during school those tests are just worthless.
I don't think so. All of the colleges I have looked out weighted scores on tests like the SAT almost as highly as they weighted GPA.
That is true. There are many colleges out there that do look at those test scores. I have also seen many that mainly look at your GPA. What I have come to notice is that a lot of big Universities look at your tests scores. And there are also many small state colleges that do not care. I think it is really up to the school that you are looking at. Some schools really take those tests seriously others, do not care just as long as you at least take it. It also depends on what your major you want to go into. It really varies form school to school. And what you want to study.

the one in 7th grade doesn't go on your record.
