An investigation carried out ostensibly to uncover subversive activities but actually used to harass and undermine those with differing views.

I doubt Shnicky seriously believes that the President's Justice Department is seeking to harass several members of his own political party without cause.

Do you?

TPM has several juicy posts of Abramoff and his friends' operations:   forced abortion for workers, 3rd world wages, documents of bribery payments.  Here's the best part:  Governor-Elect of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands agrees to cooperate in the investigation of DeLay and Abramoff.   http://www.dccc.org/stakeholder/archives/004025.html

The key part is:  Adam Kidan may have agreed to testify against Abramoff.

Diagram of the money trail

money to Ralph Reed

During little more than half that period of time (1999-2002) Abramoff funnelled some $4.2 million to just one guy -- his old buddy Ralph Reed.

.... Jack Abramoff wasn't just a crooked lobbyist, he was running a slush fund.

These politicians-in-trouble topics are boring. Every president since Nixon has been in trouble for something or other...

Nixon:        Watergate
Ford:          Pardoned Nixon
Carter:       Cocaine in the White House
Reagan:     Iran/Contra
Bush I:       Sprayed Pesticides all Over South America
Clinton:      Whitewater/Definition of Sex
Bush II:      Drunk Driving, Election Fraud, Lied about Iraq,
smurfed up Katrina Relief, Harriet Miers, CIA Secret
Prisons, Can't Catch Osama, No Exit Strategy,
Abu Ghraib, Pissed Off the U.N., Clueless About
the Environment, Outted Valerie Plame, Friends
                   with DeLay ....

Gee, George II's list is kind of long compared to the others, isn't it? lol

Re: Abramoffgate: the next big evil politically-inspired Repub witchunt!

I always thought Carter's stuff was like: brother Billy, 'lusted-in-my-heart', Hamilton Jordan.

The problems really were: inflation, oil, 'malaise in America' (which I don't think he ever actually said)....

oh, and some hostages in Tehran.

edit: and before Nixon, there was LBJ's 'light at the end of the tunnel'.

Funny, BushII seems to be rolling an awful lot of these together.

Hamilton Jordan I barely remember his name. The rest of that stuff is all legal.

Re: Abramoffgate: the next big evil politically-inspired Repub witchunt!

Stand by for more money laundering and tax evasion charges vs. Tom Delay and Jack Abramoff.

http://www.statesman.com/news/content/n … amoff.html

apital Athletic Foundation, a charity run by disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff now at the center of an influence-peddling investigation on Capitol Hill, told the IRS it gave away more than $330,000 in grants in 2002 to four other charities that say they never received the money.

The largest grant the foundation listed in its 2002 tax filing was for $300,000 to P'TACH of New York, a nonprofit that helps Jewish children with learning disabilities.

"We've never received a $300,000 gift, not in our 28 years," a surprised Rabbi Burton Jaffa, P'TACH's national director, told the Austin American-States- man. "It would have been gone by now. I guess I would have been able to pay some teachers on time."....

he discrepancy also follows e-mails between Abramoff and members of his lobbying team that say then-House Republican Leader Tom DeLay of Sugar Land wanted to raise money through Capital Athletic for an unspecified purpose. In one of those e-mails, Abramoff announced a $200,000 fundraising goal.

DeLay does not recall making such a request, his lawyer, Richard Cullen, said Wednesday. Capital Athletic's tax return does not indicate whether Abramoff reached his $200,000 goal.

But around the time Capital Athletic's tax form was filed in fall 2003, listing the $300,000 donation P'TACH says it didn't get, a DeLay-created charity called Celebrations for Children was begun with $300,000 in seed money.

Firedoglake http://firedoglake.blogspot.com/2005_12 … 3874985544

But today, I read this in the WaPo:

President Bush said yesterday he is confident that former House majority leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) is innocent of money-laundering charges, as he offered strong support for several top Republicans who have been battered by investigations or by rumors of fading clout inside the White House.

Um, hello??!?? The President of the United States and former Governor of the State of Texas says he thinks that Tom Delay is innocent to a national news outlet after a presiding judge has just ruled that the charge stands as proper to be tried by a jury of Delay's peers. Did he or his staff even stop to think about the consequences of this public display of affection for Delay? Has anyone explained to the Preznit the meaning of the words "jury tampering?"

I mean, it is one thing for me, a private citizen, to gripe about this or that thing. But the President of the freaking United States? That's a whole other mess entirely.

Jury tampering, eh ? A felony.

Abramoff may squeal to the Feds.

Raw Story

Jack Abramoff, the Republican lobbyist under criminal investigation, has been discussing with prosecutors a deal that would grant him a reduced sentence in exchange for testimony against former political and business associates, people with detailed knowledge of the case say, The New York Times will report.
