I learned that the hard way when I bought my last computer, back when there were still Expos in Boston. Three weeks after I bought my single-processor G4/450, Apple introduced the dual processor models with bigger hard drives and more RAM for the same price. I bought in August 2001, right before the Expo.
I will never make that mistake again.
Based on that logic, you should never buy a Mac. I bought my single processor 1.8 GHz G5 in September of '03. I got one of the first ones shipped. Within days it was discontinued -- replaced by the Dual Processor 1.8 GHz machine -- for about $100 more.
Then the single processor 1.8 came back...with a modified architecture and a slower (600 MHz) bus.
On the whole, though, it has given me over two years of great service.
The only way to have the latest and greatest Mac in front of you is to be testing it in an Apple lab. I'm just hoping this old G5 will keep running the current OS until I'm out from under my daughter's college career. If I make that...I'm stylin'

That's funny. I must have missed the part where Steve announced updates to 90% of the product line.

Fine, nitpick my a$$. Maybe the percentage was high, and maybe there are exceptions.
For anyone who cares about features, specs, and performance, buying a Mac in December is just asking for trouble. That's what I was trying to say, but apparently none of you speak English.

I'd like a MacBook, but I won't buy one until the second generation of them come out.
Maybe by the time the Fall semester starts, I'll do it.

Re: Official MWSF 2006 thread
Finally, an Apple notebook worth looking at. It's still too expensive IMO, but once these get into the hands of so called "pros", it will easily expose the G4 for the slug that it is (in 2005).
Interestingly, Asus announced a few days ago a partnership with Lamborghini, a line of Intel Core Duo technology-based notebooks that look like a Lamborghini bonnet... plus a few others based on the same CPU.
Whoever said I was predicting doom & gloom for Macs is wrong, Apple will sell a lot more Intel based Macs.. finally the hardware will kickass. It's OSX I see being marginalized as IMO most will choose to dual boot rather than "switch" outright. Once OSX drops to 1 or 2% of total users and Apple climbs to near 7 - 9% Market share, the writing will be on the wall for developers. Apple will then open OSX to all x86 / 64 bit hardware and be primed to make a run at MS dominance... this will take at least 5 years to start to play out.
One thing that will hurt Apple is a fragmented user base, OS9 is still popular with many "pros", then there's 20(?) versions of OSX, some G4's, 5's and stubborn G3 users to go with the new Intel buyers... sooner than you think Apple will abandon all things PPC and push all Intel, esp if, what I think will happen, before too long (2 years) the Intel user base will eclipse the entire remaining PPC user base.
IMO today was the re-birth of Apple computer.

I don't know anyone still running os9. I'm not saying people don't but 95% of my designer/protographer/musician/artist friends use macs and they all use osx.

AMD, the price is really not too expensive when you compare the new MacBook to current brand name mid-high end laptop from company such as Sony, Toshiba, HP, their dualcore laptop will be price in the same area(specially one with a nice video chipset similar to what Apple is offering.)

Re: Official MWSF 2006 thread
Since I just purchased a Rev B iMac in November, which I am still happy about because I got it really cheap, I will not be getting a new iMac. However I think that the line between the iMac and PowerMac for many "starving" business people is starting to erode. The new iMac not only has a good video card but can also span the desktop, so says the Apple Graphics page on their site.
For the first time ever, iMac lets you use a second display in extended desktop mode, in addition to simply mirroring the first.
That is cool in my book, 17inch iMac and cheap Dell monitor could be a good solution for the people who need extra room.

Anyone notice Apple no longer shows benchmarks against Intel chips when spouting the performance of the G5 PowerMacs? They are using a dual 1.42 Ghz G4 as the baseline.
Hmmmm.... someone get one of these things to Rob "Art" Morgan asap.

Clearly this is the case, seeing how my Powerbook is about 6 months old, and it too needs to be replaced.
I'll wait for Rev B though.

Just because they weren't announced today, doesn't mean that the info was incorrect. They're probably next, along with the Mini.

1. Because they still have them.
2. The MacBook Pro isn't shipping yet.
3. Some people want something other than 15".
4.
It amazes me that some people just have to find something to complain about. It's like you can't be happy unless you're unhappy...
