I think everyone is happy with the specs.
I can understand the comercial reasons behind the name, but I don't like it, and will think of it as a "intel PowerBook" for now.

I'm not happy about FW800. I use it. Of course I have a 17" PB, so I'll wait for a 17" model first.

Uhoh. Looks like this one's somekind of moron.
PowerBook 100, first PowerBook I think, didn't have a PPC proc. PowerBook 230, I used, also, unless MiniTruth's had a go at the records, not a PPC based PowerBook.
Mac Book Pro sounds better than anything else (given they had no choice really but to change it).
Just wait until it's the MacBook Longitude and MacBook Inspiration – then you'll be sorry. [

Apple PowerBook
Name denotes 'professional, 'powerful', 'able', 'tough', 'well-built', etc, etc.
Apple MacBook Pro

I may be in the minority here, but I kinda like it! It describes exactly what it is. I recall a lot of bitching when the iPod came out and what a stupid name it was. Seems to have worked out well, though.

Dude, they look awesome. There's no arguing with that. It's also really hard to argue with jonycrash - the name DOES sound like something straight off the McDonalds menu.
Let people complain if they want. It hurts you to let them gripe about a poorly named product that rocks despite its name? Let it go.

No, the IR port looks kinda rushed. Why not in the button, like the sleep light?

Re: Anybody else think MacBook Pro is a dumb name?
It's funny that there's 10x more complaining about the name (something totally inconsequential) than any 1 aspect of the configuration.
People need to complain for some odd reason. You can feel the complaints coming about something but the name?

ooooooooooooooh, harsh!
'MacBook' seems so childish. That whole love affair with 'i' this and 'i' that really should've ended years ago, but no, it still finds a place in all of Apple's [un]creative thought.
And now 'MacBook', which is posited in the same world as PowerBook, ThinkPad, IntelliNote, et al arrives in what is really, a small puff of smoke. I see the power of this thing, but the name just takes all that away. It reminds me of all those cool car names that end up meaning something else in another language - and I draw you attention to this site for more on product branding...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foreign_branding
Don't get me wrong, I like it as a product, and I'll buy one next year, but telling someone I have an Apple MacBook Pro would probably be as embarrassing as telling someone in Spain that I drove a Mitsubishi Pajero (see the Wikipedia link).

I think the name sux. Its not that hard to come up with a catchy name that oozes power and charm. Although this is not much of a change in the name, it would have still differentiated it from the old PowerBook line: PowerPad

Stupid post, Isn't it better to only have complaints about the name? And thinking it's stupid isn't complaining, why do you need complaining? Why should "we" complain about the hardware?
+ This is a thread dedicated to the name, If you'd notice.
People like the machine. Hence no complaints. Find the name stupid. Yes, me too.

I agree, the Name sounds awful, they should have stuck with powerbook.

Maybe they're thinking of adding new colors eventually?
You couldn't really have a "White Powerbook" or a "Black Powerbook".

Re: Anybody else think MacBook Pro is a dumb name?
If I get one (we'll see how Apple's stock does in the next few days) I'll tell people it's a Powerbook. 90 percent of consumers know them simply as "Macs" anyway. Hopefully there will be a lot more of those people very soon.

It is a silly name, but I'd rather a silly name than a silly product.
We could have had The All New Powerbook, now at a blazing 1.6799999999999999999999999 GHz.

Blech, Mac Book. Ewwwww!!! Worst name ever!!! Who wants to go up to their friends and say, "hey look at my new Macbook Pro." Come on, it just sounds childish and wrong for a pro level machine. Guess I spend more money on PC parts now and upgrading my Cube. With each Apple update i'm liking their hardware less and less.
