Did Steve Jobs bitch-slap Adobe?
Found this one today and I'll direct you to the part where Steve seems to take a jab:
Loser: Adobe Photoshop was part of Jobs’ demo on how Rosetta can run PowerPC-based applications on Intel machines without hiccups—but it was a pretty half-hearted demo at best. Add to that a Jobs comment about how long it takes for Photoshop to load, and you get the sense that Adobe isn’t exactly one of his favorite developers at this particular moment.
Did Adobe just get bitch-slapped by Steve Jobs?

I don't think they were trying to bitch slap Adobe, if anything, it was the opposite. Adobe, for a lot of people, represent the "killer app" for the switch to Intel to be worth it.
I think Jobs was more nervous about exposing potentially crappy Rosetta performance in front of millions of people (when you count the news reports, and the keynote streams).

Dunno. Photoshop always takes a bit to open on either platform though - it does a lot of loading at the front end.

Apple better treat Adobe carefully, they have more to lose than Adobe does if it came to a fight.

Every creative department I've ever seen uses Macs. All of them. I think Adobe understands where it's users are.

If Adobe discontinued the CS apps for the Mac creative pros would simply have to switch.
If Adobe dropped Apple there would be no choice for me but to get a PC and lots of people are in the same position.

Adobe won't D/C its Mac apps until Apple one ups them, like what happened with Final Cut Pro and whatever that Adobe crapware was that did the same thing.

Not entirely true. You have to factor in a few things:
- The cost to ditch the macs and buy PCs would peeve quite a few people.
and
- Many Studios don't use the current version of Adobe apps anyhow.
It's not like Adobe drops CS2 for Mac tomorrow, and everyone's copy stops working. Hell, where I was working last year, we used Photoshop 5.

Well, ya, but if Adobe were to say that they wont make an OSX86 version of CS2 and no Mac version of CS3 Adobe could single handedly kill the Mac in the creative area.
People would keep using there old stuff for awhile, maybe even years but Apple's revinue stream from that market would die almost instanainiously. Sure people would be pissed but what other application suite could replace Adobe's?
Thats what I ment.

adobe is one of apple's few big brothers. Jobs knows that and wouldn't do anything to harm them. In fact, I think Adobe was one of the first developers to join the universal basic bandwagon.

Is that why Apple come out with that ar...sw?
If Adobe really want to pissed off Apple, they can offer any Adobe register user from the past 5yr a low cost/free exchange for window version of same software!
Remember this boy and girl, high performance wintel hardware is dirt cheap, the sw and "TRAINING" to use is not

No, but surprisingly it actually loaded up and ran just fine under 9.2.2 which is pretty amasing considering it was developed to run on system 6.* (I think).

Re: Did Steve Jobs bitch-slap Adobe?
Adobe is a 900-pound gorilla. Until Apple has in-house replacements for the popular Adobe products, they will have to get along.
I remember when Steve showed off Altivec by running Photoshop on a fast x86 machine, then blowing it away with Photoshop on a G4. That wasn't so long ago.
I think Steve's recent comments were just a subtle nudge for Adobe to optimize their products for the Mac market.

I believe Adobe actually fired the first shot when cozying up to Windows. Anyway, my CS1 Photoshop ran like poop on OSX Panther but I recently upgraded to CS2 and it works a lot better.

Really, a lot of this depends on what part of the creative industry you work in. As a designer I find that my Mac is fine for graphic design, and a lot of other graphic designers that I work with have Macs. But my use of the platform for graphic design has more to do with OS preference then an absolute need for Mac OS.
Moreover, as a designer I also find that MacOS has significant short comings should you dive into the world of product design, interactive design etc.
Personally, I can't wait to have a machine that can dual boot between Windows can MacOS
. That would solve soooo many problems for me.

Re: Did Steve Jobs bitch-slap Adobe?
It wasn't a bitch-slap to Adobe. It was more of a veiled "we're not releasing pro machines with Intel until Adobe gets its apps ported. Please do that soon, hm?"
The Quark Xpress comments back when they were dragging their feet on OS X was a slap.
I still believe in liberalism today as much as I ever did, but, oh, there was a happy time when I believed in liberals.

Re: Did Steve Jobs bitch-slap Adobe?
Adobe's support of Apple has been slipping over the last few years, as evidenced by what happened with Premiere and such. I do think Steve was venting some frustration over the situation even if he wasn't going out of his way to slam them. He was definitely going out of his way to say when the major third part software titles were going to be released as Universal and Adobe's information was conspicuously vague. He was also trying to show how Rosetta is a usable if less than ideal solution. Photoshop while powerful and widely used does take a while to start up even under the best situation which even if those watching understand that fact they tend to not consider that when watching a demonstration which no doubt added to steve frustration.

Re: Did Steve Jobs bitch-slap Adobe?
I really think he only said that because (truly) Photoshop does always take a second to load, even on a Quad G5, with 4 GB of RAM, and didn't want ppl to think that it was because Rosetta was slow.
