We bought 10 unimproved acres north of Williams, AZ last spring for $78K. Now there's a lot of commercial development in the pipeline, and the value has doubled already. Building the house is going to run about $150K.

Yep, we bought our home 5 1/2 years ago for 190k. Its exactly 1,490sq feet on a 1/4 acre fenced in lot on a hill, nicely lanscaped, has an attached one car automatic garage, and is close to any and all stores (Apple Store 10 minutes away!). With no traffic I can make it to Boston in 20 minutes. It was and still is in move in condition. It was assessed four months ago at 280k. That's an 18k a year return. eek

I have two very young children and worry if they will be able to afford a home 25/30 years from now or will be forced to move out of state. Massachusetts, because of the high housing market and high cost of living is one of the few states that is consistently losing population!
