Startup time is so slow...
I'm sure someone must have tried to remidy this "problem" before. My iBook takes what seems like forever to restart. I'd rather never restart but after it sleeps it just doesn't perform very well. Anyway to speed up this slow startup process?

Re: Startup time is so slow...
Which iBook do you have? What speed processor? How much RAM?

Did you install "IP Over Firewire"? This slows down startup considerably.

Re: Startup time is so slow...
my ibook is slow starting up also (600/DVD/640MB). I remedy this problem by never shutting it down, only putting it to sleep. Uptime average is one month.

I have an 800Mhz/Combo/640RAM... It just seems so slow to me to startup. I would never shut it down except waking it up from sleep sometimes hinders the system performance for whatever reason.

Re: Startup time is so slow...
That seems really weird. I have the 800Mhz/Combo with only 384MB RAM that I installed less than a week ago. Before that, even with 128 the startup time wasn't ridiculous (although I only rebooted every couple of days when things got sluggish, which I blamed on the lack of RAM, perhaps incorrectly). Now that I have 384, startup is relatively speedy and waking up from sleep is a breeze.

Re: Startup time is so slow...
Waking up from sleep is very quick for me. Nearly instant when I open the lid. Startup from a complete power off takes upwards of 3 minutes. Being that I'm coming from the PC world and this is my first Mac in almost 10 years maybe this is normal and I don't know. I'm ust used to booting up on my PC in 30-45 seconds.

Re: Startup time is so slow...
Maybe the memory testing your 640 mb of RAM is whats taking so long.

I'm running the same setup and it take about 2 seconds to awake from sleep. I've only restarted it maybe 5 times in 4 months. In fact when I'm pulling into the train station at work in the all I do is shut the lid and then everythings ready to go for the ride home in the evening.
