Different Audio Output plus Problem

I am looking for a program that will let me choose certain destinations for different audio sources.  Basically iTunes="Line Out" and everything else="internal speakers".  I have tried the program "Detour", but this doesn't work in my situation.  I am running a 20" iMac G5 and I can only see "Line Out" for output when I have an audio cord plugged in the audio out or Internal Speakers when it is not plugged in.  Would using an optical cable make any difference in  being able to choose one device or another (Line Out or Internal Speakers?  Or is there another program that works around this good/bad bug Apple has supplied the audio interface?
