PAL to NTSC
I have been buying foreign movies(PAL). I want to know if there is any way on a mac to make these NTSC. And if there is no one program to do this. What about FCP. I just started useing it. I say 2 weeks into it. So i have a long ways to go to learn how to use it. Hmm what about imovie.
But can it be done with FCP so i can get more practice with it. I found a web site that show you how but it say you need hardware that I dont have.

OK thank again for all the help

Re: PAL to NTSC
there's a plug-in for FCP that will do this for you without hardware. it's $100 here--> http://www.nattress.com/standardsConversion.htm

Re: PAL to NTSC
I could be mistaken, but I think Compressor 2 can do the PAL to NTSC transfer. All you'd have to do is capture it to FCP (with PAL settings in your preferences) then output with Compressor. Again, not sure if I'm right, but worth trying with a short clip.

Re: PAL to NTSC
Macworld magazine has a comprehensive guide on using FCP and converting PAL to NTSC.
This month's issue.

Re: PAL to NTSC
the Nattress filter does a much better, smoother job. Compressor works, but not as smooth.
And Nattress works on the timeline and retains the ORIGINAL TC...compressor doesn't.
Just FYI.

Re: PAL to NTSC
And for anyone interested in a free solution for converting your MPEG2 (DVD vobs), you could try this Applescript droplet I put together.
First you'll need to have the VOB or MPEG file.
Drop the video file onto the Video Convertor droplet.
Choose either PAL or NTSC for your target video type.
Choose the aspect ratio of the original video.
Choose if you want to create an AC3 stereo mix or copy the existing audio stream.
A terminal window will open and do the conversion.
Once the window says [Process complete], you will have your converted MPEG2.
Note this may take a while depending on your hardware.
Then author your new video (using Toast, MovieGate, dvdauthor, etc)
Video Convertor droplet
This uses ffmpeg. Let me know if this works, or doesn't work.
