Bin Laden admits ties to Iraq; or at least, he will soon.

"Umm, our production studios are still working on the video, but trust me, I've seen the script, and I know what he's gonna say."
Lame, even if you don't think it was faked, why wouldn't you think Bin Laden isn't just trying to screw Iraq? If there's anything that would bring Bin Laden's cause into more light it's a war by the US against a Muslim Country.

It will be interesting to hear the administration treat bin Laden as a credible source on this matter. Of course, he'll be telling them exactly what they want to hear, so it will be easy for them to do.

Highly unlikely.

I'm ignorant on this matter--do we actually have foolproof technology that can verify, with certainty, the identity of a speaker on an audio tape?

They're going to just keep hammering away until they get what they want. . . which is to invade Iraq.

Highly unlikely.
They'll accept it as both a legitimate message from bin Laden, and as confirmation of the close ties between Al Queda and Sadaam they've been claiming exist all along.

No. With good recordings, and a sample from both Bin Laden and the speaker on the tape, you could run a voiceprint, but there's no way to get a decent enough Bin Laden voice sample to match it to.
This isn't all that dissimilar to the alleged 'smoking gun' tape. While that may likely have been Bin Laden, the audio-sync was horribly off, the arabic was sloppy, and the dialoque seemed very scripted.
Used to be I would have considered anyone who thought that the government would fake evidence like this to be nut, but after the whole "Let's Roll" incident, I have a hard time believing anything the administration tells me.

Nah. As far as anyone knows, it could be Billy West on these tapes.

Beer Penguine,
What "Let's Roll" thing are you talking about?
Bondage to Spiritual Faith; Spiritual Faith to Courage; Courage to Freedom;
Freedom to Abundance; Abundance to Selfishness; Selfishness to Complacency;
Complacency to Apathy; Apathy to Fear; Fear to Dependency; Dependency back to Bondage

We own Iraq. Without America Iraq is a mere colony of savages.
Either Iraq obeys or we'll send them all on a fast track to Allah.
You bet it's about oil. We'll get Bin Laden as a side benefit.
An alternative to sending them on a fast track to eternity is to pay Saddam a trillion dollars. Hey, Saddam, check's in the mail, big dude! Now it's legal to kiss our ass and just flush that muslim fundamentalist baloney down the toilet bowl!

Well, the tape was on CNN a little while ago. The parts they played was bin Ladden telling muslims to fight if there is a war in Iraq. There was no link between Al-queda and Iraq that I heard.
I could bore you with a philosophical tirade about freedom and tyranny, or try and explain to you what new horizons are suddenly open to me, but I doubt you would understand and if you did it might frighten you. That amuses me.

Can anyone post the article so I dont have to register?
Here's a link to what I'm guessing is a similar article (I'm not registered at NYT either): Link
Edit: made the link orange instead of blue because I'm tired of the blue for links

C'mon... you had to know something like this was going to happen sooner or later... you think they would let the public forget about Bin Laden that easily?
Are you saying "they" made this tape up?
Just like back in Saigon! Eh, slick?

Beer Penguin, do you still believe that the American government bombed the WTC? Was it you who believed that?
