Re: Anyone here believe in God?
Nope. Since you asked, my present state of awareness has been telling me that the notion of a God has come from early development stages of man, where he felt overpowered by unexplainable natural forces. Eventually people realized they could propagate this notion of ultimate fear by creating religion to control masses of people for various reasons, one of them being to advance civilization as a whole. Now that we have so many different religions that all seem similar in general construct, and this construct was man's own construct, masses of people all over the world still blindly follow their respective born-into religions and actually fight over them, and won't let go because it all seems to make so much sense. The most telling notion of there being no God is that these things are left to go on without God's noticeable intervention, and most of what religious people do is not what they preach nor what this so called God would have intended. So no.
If you look around the table and can't tell who the sucker is, it's you.

Yes. I also believe that God and religion don't go hand in hand. Religious screwiness doesn't prove or disprove anything.

I, Susej, must convince you to be so inclined to believe in Dog.
Free the inner-fido. BELIEVE IN DOG.
Spirit was crushed; now is fading, But I want to help make things right.

So why don't we both either stand up and fight
Or at least together we'll call it a night.

Re: Anyone here believe in God?
I believe in a high power, I do not believe in man-made religion, nor do I participate in it. Knob is closer to right than wrong in the definition of religion, IMO but there are many reasons to believe otherwise, mainly our own mortality. Believing in God gives some people hope for something better, when they cannot find this hope in their own present situation. Many have referred to religion and God as a crutch (their words, not mine) but if you have a broken leg, a crutch comes in handy.

I believe in God like the force that judges you by your acts/thoughs/intentions on Earth and gives you peace with your soul if you deserve it

I used to believe in God, but then I realized that my watch was made in China.
I believe in Karma. That means I can do bad things to people all day long and I assume they deserve it.

Which God?

Re: Anyone here believe in God?
I'm really surprised that this hasn't turned into MiniThink material. Especially with religious people responding to knobtwirler's post. (with which I personally agree with most of) I suppose this is mainly because nobody challenged any beliefs so far, or have tried to prove that there is or is not any God. Or perhaps everybody here is tired of arguing a point that they know they will never convince the other person of.

It's another name for the forum we have here called "Ministry of Free Thought." It's for discussion of things like religion, politics, and -oddly enough- sports.

I think they rescinded the order to discuss sports there. It wasn't really working out too well.
