Re: How often does safari unexpectedly quit?
Mine crashes every time I use it.
Every time I close a window it crashes and I get the "Safari has unexpectedly quit. Should I send a message to Apple about it?" window. Even telling the program to quit does the same thing.
This has only happened since I upgraded Panther to version OS X 10.3.9 and Safari to version 1.3.1.
I'm using Firefox now, which is quite stable, but I've got a stack of bookmarks to migrate across to Firefox. Is there an easy way to do that?

Why aren't you using Safari 1.3.2 under Panther 10.3.9?

Re: How often does safari unexpectedly quit?
Since I switched to 10.4.x, Safari has become a lot less stable... In 10.3.x it almost never crashed, but now it hangs about 3 times a week..
But reading the comments here, it might have something to do with QuickTime 7 (which is a lot slower than 6, though the latest update fixed my biggest complaints)
Once I have my Macbook Pro, I think I'm gonna switch my Mini back to 10.3.x , or maybe try a clean install of 10.4 (I upgraded because I didn't have much time)

Re: How often does safari unexpectedly quit?
Well this thread has quashed any thoughts I had about going back to Safari.
I'll be sticking with teh mighty 'fox until Camino makes it to official release status (I have a slight betaphobia™). I've gotten so comfortable with Firefox's quirkiness that I even reverted to using its default theme, which used to piss me right off.
I urge anyone who finds it unacceptable that their browser crashes with alarming regularity, to check out one of the many alternatives.

Despite the fact that Safari has its problems, it still feels more like a Mac application (I want to use the up arrow to go to the beginning of a single-line text field dammit!) than FireFox, and less rough around the edges than Camino...

On my own computer? Once or twice. On lab machines, sometimes it'll quit as soon as you try to load a web page. I don't know what's up with that.

Ditto on the myspace comment.
I don't blame it, though, if I were a browser and forced to view a thousand pictures of 'JUST SAYING HI!!1!' and load four different MP3s and 4s simoultaneously, while applying the { chroma(color: everysingleone); } effect to the whole page, I'd kill my own process as well.

Mine crashes almost daily. Typically, though, I'll open 12 or more tabs and have 4-5 applications up. OS 10.4.4, Safari 2.0.3.

Re: How often does safari unexpectedly quit?
I use Safari on two computers. One is a Quicksilver G4, running Panther, and the other is my Aluminum Powerbook G4, running Tiger. I can't recall that Safari has ever crashed on my Powerbook, and it's about 99% solid on my Quicksilver.

Shiira's quite nice and, v. slowly, it's getting better and better. But I'm sticking with nightly-builds (not every night, though) of Safari until OmniWeb 5.5 arrives and then I'll reconsider.

Safari Bookmark Exporter
Take the HTML file it generates and import it into FF.

Re: How often does safari unexpectedly quit?
Safari never crashes on me... of course I use Firefox but that's beside the point.
Seriously, though, at home I do use Safari (whatever the latest Tiger release is) and I have not had any problems. Had much problems when I was running Panther, however.
My biggest problem with Safari was never crashes; that was rare. It was when it would beachball for 10-15 seconds at a time.

That's what finally converted me to Firefox. Every time I did a search on eBay, Safari would beachball for several minutes, then just when I was about to Force Quit (assuming I hadn't already) it would come back to life.
For me, while Safari looks nicer, Firefox is the only browser (beside IE on XP) to consistently play ball with all the sites I visit. And at the end of the day I want a browser to work, not look pretty. I'm pretty enough for the both of us!!

I don't know what the hell you people do to your puters but Safari hasn't quit on me in probably a year or more.
I always run the latest of everything, running updates a week or 2 after they're out although I skipped 10.4.3.

All browsers suck, Safari just sucks less than the rest.
