iPod 3rd Gen DRT - "Dead Raht Thar"

Bitter sigh. sad My son's 3rd gen ipod (click wheel) appears to be dead.  It just suddenly died. Won't charge or reset or nothin'.  I'd like to think that a new battery would be in order, but it's only a year old (actually almost exactly one year old). I've seen reports that the 3rd gen HD was prone to failure. Anyone else seen or heard of this? I would think that even if the battery was dying that it would behave more like a notebook battery and initially fail to hold a charge prior to just dying. Now while it doesn't appear to have been dropped, such an accident is certainly possible. Any thoughts?

3Gs had red backlit buttons. First clickwheel was a 4G.

No error? No activity on screen? No nothin?

Now it's suddenly working again! I toggled the Hold switch a couple of times and then executed the Reset three times and on the third attempt it worked! It was plugged into my iMac G5 at the time and iTunes wanted to install an update, so I let it do that. Life is good at the moment,  just don't know why! shrug
