Erm...
OK, so I installed UT2K4, need to install the new bonus pack from epic, then update(epic says to install pack first then update).
- Are there any other map packs I need to download ? LLevi(I'm sure he'll read
this) do I need to download anything to get on your server to join in or is it
auto download ? Maybe it's auto download but you prefer I dl first anyways ?
- Have any of you tried Jailbreak If so
any comments ?
- Anything else I should get, plz feel free to point me in the right direction:
web site forum or any other source. I'm sure there a few threads in here that
could help.
- I'm sure you have been through this before with a noobs like me, so thank
you for you time
- Ooops, just noticed the sticky in this forum.(top thread)I need glasses I think. I
ain't no spring chicken anymore

Yeah the sticky is upto date mostly. One change is that the server is current on the version.
Heard good things on JB but never played it...car ball is another to look at.

Because of the [] in the name and link. BBCode doesn't like too many of them.

Here is the link:

Thank you DocB
Even the other link is dead cause it didn't have the last part to it([MA]Goes211.zip). I need to brush up on my searching skills.
Hmm, silly BBCode is picky. 2 brackets is ok but not 4.

Ok, the LoupGarou nick is good to go so far. Haven't seen any other yet.
Forgive my ignorance, but wasn't G5 the clan we had a scrim against ? I remember the scrim itself, fuzzy about the team we played against tho. It was the best games I've had in 2K4 !
Would it be possible to do it again ? Could we gather some old/current/new MA members who could redo the battle ? Of course I would get kicked around alot this time
Or we could do it in COD2
(bummer, mac port not until MAy 2006)

Re: Erm...
Yeah G5 is another Mac Clan. I tried to get something going with them a couple months ago. The last two emails I sent never got replies. Simple question too...how big? I wanted to do something bigger, better than the standard 4v4 or 5v5 stuff. I was looking for 8v8 or so.

Re: Erm...
No reponse eh ? bummer. Well, I'm with you and Doc, bigger is better. :cool:Push it up to 10 vs 10 if you like. Also, with bigger groups it's easier for me to justify my staying behind to defend and not because I got lost on my way to meet up with you guys.
Or you can use me as a distraction, I could be used to annoy the other team with no other goal. I could stay behind and bunny hop my way to an unaviodable beat down.

Defend what!?! There's no defense in ONS, it's 100% offensive. If you're not building or taking down nodes you're not doing your team any good. OK now I'm gonna get ranty. Nothing with people around here...just things that have built up over the last couple weeks. ONS noobs are rather irritating.
First off OMFG.WTF!!!!!!1111!!!!!
This game is over two years old and people are still trying to heal the core! Take off in an empty HB. Hey you! A manta can hold four! Link link link for crist sakes! I can't tell you how many nodes I built all by my lonesome this weekend. Anyway yeah noob stuff just got under my skin. Feel much better now.
However I am guilty of attacking a locked node once in awhile. Hey it wasn't locked ten seconds ago.
Yeah I do take off in empty Hellbenders but in my defense I've got 80% eff. in the side turret and I can drive a HB like no other.
Driving a HB into the middle of the fray is just a waste of a good HB.
IMHO some dos and don'ts
The key to ONS is build and take down nodes as quickly as possible.
1) Do give other teammates a chance to load into vehicles.
2) Do link to teammates to get the node up faster.
3) Don't hang out at the core or locked nodes.
4) Don't camp vehicles...
ONS is very time sensitive and team orientated. Time spent at a locked node, the core or camping a vehicle is time wasted. Time used helping your team take down and build nodes is much better spent.
5) Don't go harass the other team at a locked node. The theory sounds good but I've yet seen it be very effective.
6) Do team up. I hit F1 and see who is scoring the best. AKA someone who knows how to play. Then I find him and do my best to stick with them.
7) Don't be too quick to hit a weapon locker. Use up what ya got first.
8) Know your weapons. A footman can be very deadly. No Avrils...no problem insta-hit weapons like shock and LiGun are very effective. Mini too. Got my first head shot on a Manta driver last week. Then I stole his manta.
9) Do steal vehicles...don't have to use them but get in get out and let it sit. The time it sits is time denied to the other team of its use.
10) Don't defend the core. Instead bring down the node that has linked it.

Re: Erm...
Erm, you never mentioned ONS in the G5 post. I had it as a DOM(or was it DM) like the last time we played those guys.
Some of us seem to forget where we came from. All great players were once noobs. Ranting against noobs is ranting against oneself(and me)
It's only a game, how soon we forget.
Thanks for the pointers about ONS. Always nice to get them from experienced players. As a noob in 2K4 I sure need em.
I'll make sure not to stay behind and defend the base, core or whatever they call it.

Re: Erm...
The G5 scrim would've been a world tour kinda thing. A mix of everything or that's what we had hoped.
RTFM
Ok I'm not so much ranting against noobs but against things that are written in the game manual and should by now be common knowledge.
1) Can't heal your own core.
2) Team up, link up to build nodes faster.
3) Vehical seating cap. Granted the manual doesn't mention the 4 to a manta trick, but that was one of the first ONS tricks I learned 2+ years ago.
4) Can't attack locked nodes.
ONS is hugely dependant on team work and it's the lack of it that is truely frustrating.

Gotta take issue with some of your points LLEVI
Defending an unlocked node until your team can bring down the enemy's linking node can be a very critical thing. It depends very much on the map and the link setup. If the node you just built gets taken down you can't advance. Sitting at a locked node is point less unless you can see on the HUD that the enemy linking node is about to come up.
Actually harassing the enemy on some maps is very useful. If you can get a bunch of them chasing you around at their locked node while your team gets the linking node built so much the better. Conversely if you are being harassed get the heck out of there and attack the linking node before the enemy gets it built.
Agree with #7. Do set a key-bind for toss weapon. When using the Link Gun to build a node keep an eye on the ammo — don't use it all up. In most situations you get more Link ammo if you have no Link Gun in your inventory than if you do. So toss that Link Gun before you get to zero and get a fresh one from the locker. Also different maps have different build speeds for nodes as well as what the weapon lockers will provide in ammo — only experience will tell you this.

You're on the front lines then...where the players should be. To me it isn't defense but an obstacle in the way of my forward momentum. Kill it and move on...
Actually harassing the enemy on some maps is very useful.
I get a chuckle out of it...so I guess. It is funny to see that lone manta come flying over the hill, towards the enemy's first node in Torlan. Only to get Avriled down before he even hits the bottom. Wasted time...wasted manta...GJ
Like I said I have never seen it used to much effect. Mostly just a waste of time and resources. For the most part ppl do it just to be a wanker and not the valid tactical implications. “Oh goody I’m gonna mess with the other team buzzing my manta around.” No, sir if someone was serious about it you hang back break out the LG and pop a few linking heads.
Harassers bothering me in game don't bug me at all. I get them or they get me...done. If it’s at a locked node I'll spawn somewhere up the chain. If it was the forward most node...well then it wasn't harassment then was it.

I remember the Manta coming in and pancaking peeps at the first Torlan node. Sometimes that would work, usually against noobs. Other times I could buy time for teammates by, when stranded at a node, keeping the opposition occupied.
