Final Cut Pro 5: The most annoying thing ever

For some reason, FCP has decided to take forever (like 10 seconds) to calculate anytime i try to delete a piece of a clip.  Seriously, it acts like i've just tried to pull some complicated maneuver, even coming up with the little color wheel and temporarily highlighting the "edit" menu (which, incidentally, i've just found out, is where the keyboard's equivalent to "delete" is kept).

anybody have any idea what gives?

Have you deleted the prefs or reinstalled yet?

Sounds like a corrupt sequence or file.

Shaman,
What is it and what does it do? There is no information there about them, and I don't trust downloading strange zip files before knowing whats in them.

Re: Final Cut Pro 5: The most annoying thing ever

This is a handy application that even Apple links to.  (well, the old link is dead for some reason.  The author of the application lost the server or something, so someone else is hosting it.)

What it does is trash the three FCP preference files that can be corrupt.  Then when you open the application again, new ones are created.  What it also does that is very handy is say you have a bunch of custom settings and window layouts.  This will also create a backup set of preferences, so when you trash the old, you can restore with good ones that have your settings.

We mention this all the time on the Apple FCP and Creative Cow forums.  It is a standard tool to have.
