High PING
This is a pc question but it's also gaming related. Please forgive me for posting here, I tried a few pc gaming forums to no avail(so far). I need some input concerning my ping.
For the past few days I've been experiencing odd ping issues in COD2. When I check out my server list(refreshed, I pick a low ping server between 35 and 70. Once on the server, my ping is over 150. I tried many servers and same stuff happens. I tried othe games and my ping is stable, this seems to be a COD2 only prob. I havn't changed any settings for my internet, modem or router. Things would work just fine until a few days ago. Anyone ever experience this before ? The only thing that has changed is my vid card driver, but I doubt that has anything to do with it.
Any feed back would be apreciated. I know CoD2 isn't on mac(yet) but I figured some of you might have experienced this in other games. I really want this resolved, CoD2 is my fav FPS at the moment, I need my COD2 fix
Thank you

Re: High PING
Well the low ping listed and then moving to a higher ping happens to me all the time. In most games the listed ping is just a snap shot at the time the game did the query. The pings there are not real time. Games are just bad at accurate networking stats. For the real deal write down the IP and ping it in the command window.
Also scan the machine for spyware/adware maybe you could have some app hogging bandwidth.

Re: High PING
I know the listed ping isn't that accurate but it was always fairly close until a few days ago. As for spyware and all, why would it affect only CoD? That's the part that really confuses me.
I did a full reinstall(no prefs or saved stuff left behind) of the game and the problem is still there.

Re: High PING
LOL I missed you guys!
I know this sounds silly, but how many homes are on your hub for the connection you have? We had to have DSL and Cable at the same time because our "high speed internet" was so popular with all of our neighbors that we couldn't game well. We'd also pick servers with a low ping, join them and our ping would skyrocket as soon as we were connected. Have you tried gaming at an odd hour of the day, when most people wouldn't be on the internet?
I'll ask around and see if there might be any other fixes.
I well know how frustrating this can be. In the mean time, as you taught me, "respire par les narines." (Um, I think I remembered it right.)

Re: High PING
I think you have a valid point SQ, but the thing is, it's only with one game this happens. With UT2K4 and the manly game(as mentioned by Wolf) F.E.A.R, this doesn't happen.
Those two games run smoothly. F.E.A.R is one game that doesn't forgive, you need everthing to be right for it to work smoothly. Any other internet activity runs smoothly, no hiccups. Ok, so email and web browsers are not really demanding apps, but they suffered no slow down whatsoever.

Re: High PING
Spoke with DH, who loves this game very much as well.
He said that in his experience, the in-game browser is awful and spits out bad pings. He was on a LAN with the game and it said that the ping was way off.
Also, he said that some games are so particular in that the driver just may be your problem, afterall.
Hope this helps. GL and HF fragging

Re: High PING
Working on it. Sent an email to ATI support, they sent back a generic response with a few things I should check. Not sure if it will help, but I'll try the stuff they mention anyways(can't hurt I guess)
Always looking for new blood.
We need to get Wolf in too. Wolf has a nice new comp. A Ferrari of a comp. Like a Ferrari, it needs a mechanic all the time

Re: High PING
w00t ! I'm back in business !
Dumped ATI Catalyst 6.2 and everything is back to normal
I don't understand how a video driver upgrade could so screw up a game ping wise
SuzieQ, I'll post a few servers I go on soon. Since I reinstalled I lost all my fav ones. I sorta remember the names, but not the ip.

Re: High PING
I started working in a bar, so most of my evenings are spoken for, now. I should have off at least 3 days a week, though. Every Sunday for certain. Darn Blue Laws (Can't serve alcohol on Sundays here).
We'll work something out. I'm glad your problem got sorted out. WB

Re: High PING
Here are a few:
Redsbox.net #4 8.9.3.54:28960
=AL=24/7ctf 66.55.142.63:28960
After-Hour anyone from 3 to 6
Those are ctf servers. for TDM I sometimes go to
The Perfect General 8.9.4.196:28960
Candain Black Watch 8.9.4.196.28960.
If you have UT2K4, these days I go to this server

As you might have noticed it's a VCTF server
There's alweays Cee and LLevi's servers of course
