How much to charge for my first job??
Well, I've been designing web pages and programming for a while for my university and myself. I never intendet to do it to earn any money, just because I enjoy it but a few days ago someone approached me to design a website for them. It will requiere PHP and MySQL. He wants a BB, people will need to login to enter info and rate and review products, a classifieds section maybe and a newsletter.
Well, since I never intended to get any money out of this I dont know how much to charge him!!! I was thinking something like $500 - $750 ?
Thanks for any advice.

Re: How much to charge for my first job??
I would charge at least $700 just to set up the PHP / mySQL, login, rating system portion.
If there's a newsletter involved, will that be a rucurring item to you? If so, bill that item separately.
Setup of the website depends upon how much work it entails. I was approached by another graphic designer to build a website that she had done the preliminary design for, so all I had to do was build it and drop in her text.
I made $900 for that and really just had to translate files to a 30 page website and make 1 DHTML menu - about 13 hours work (it took that long because I also took some extra time this project to learn some of the finer points of GoLive). That charge also includes some consulting time to teach the client how to do minor updates since they bought Adobe GoLive to do so.
Don't be afraid to ask what is fair, they'll let you know if it's too much (just try to figure out if they're being honest or trying to barter down). Don't short yourself.
That was also my first "official" web-site job as well. I've done others but not for pay.
So, just when did this place get Private Messages? YIKES!
