Re: Update Mania
How do I make Front Row work?
It stopped working after the last update, I guess.

Every OS X update breaks the enabler. Re-apply the enabler. AFAIK, there isn't an enabler out for the latest Front Row yet.

I not only had to reapply the enabler, I had to reinstall Front Row (it appeared to just be gone).
It doesn't work correctly, though. It's incredibly slow . . . and when I open a folder with MPEGs in it, it exits Front Row and opens iTunesthen just sits there.

I dunno. Works for me. I only had to re-apply the updater. Did you try and use the latest Front Row released today?

Yes...it wouldn't install, even with the patch.
The program used to work...it would preview mpegs that I had, and I could play them from Front Row. Now it just lags for a long time and then opens iTunes for some reason.

Re: Update Mania
That is probably why it isn't working - Apple probably broke it. I'm waiting for a new enabler.

Nope. I'm installing the security update as we speak. Or, rather, as I type...

Well the security update is for 10.3.9, are you not running 10.3.9?

Re: Update Mania
I didn't see the Security Update at VersionTracker.
I found it at Apple.com, though. I'll just shut up and install it now.

Re: Update Mania
Gah. I wish they'd link to all the updates in the software updates page, so I don't have to hunt them down myself. I have to download them at work and take them home and install them.
Thing is, even after my satellite connection is finally real, they limit usage to 17GB per month, so I'll still be doing most of my downloads at work, in order to ration those precious bytes.
For all you cool kids out there, they call it their 'Fair Access Policy', or more commonly, FAP.
Indeed.

The updates can just be downloaded via Software Update. Sure, you would only want to do the non machine specific ones but . . .
And if I go here--> http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ I always find them in order of release.

I just don't want to use software update on dialup - even jumping through the hoops I described above is 5X faster.
I won't know how much usage I'll utilize when the satellite hookup happens, but I know from what I've heard from other sat customers that you have to be very careful. Once you go over your limit, it takes at least a month to bring the numbers down to the point when they will remove the speed penalty (basicly putting you back to dialup speeds).

Riight, I was just saying use the Software Download at work and you don't have to look for them, and you can keep the files and take them home. (assumes you use a Mac at work)
But the second part was in response to you not being able to find them that page has them in order of release

A good example of why this s only a so-so solution is that I will take my TiBook to work for the downloads, but software update won't 'find' the Front Row update, which I want for the iMac.
I will however, download what I can thru SWUpdate, and find the rest via macupdate or versiontracker (it's easier than searching apple's site to me). If I keep up with updates, it isn't so bad, but when there is a slew of them, it's a pain.
