Need a little advice
Ok, so this friend of a friend is selling his 2003 iMac and, of course, I'm interested. I don't know if it's a good deal or not. I was hoping ya'll would school me on this since I'm used to my husband looking at a PC part and saying yes or no, but he doesn't know Mac about Apples.
Here's what he posted:
2003 Apple IMAC
Excellent condition
OSX version 10.3.9 "Panther"
800MHz G4 Processor
512MB SDRAM
Superdrive CD/DVD writer
SPeaker system
Extra software
$400.00
I looked up and found out that there were two sizes of monitors and the size of the monitor also determined other features available on that model. He's going to get back with me later about it.
Should I pounce, or should I wait for a better deal?
Thanks in advance!

For $400, that sounds like a pretty good deal to me.
You might consider a new Mac Mini for a couple hundred bucks more...

Re: Need a little advice
I found out that it's the 15" screen, which is the cheaper of the two models. I don't know that I'm that interested in it still. I got all excited when I saw that it could be the 17" model.
I was thinking about the mioni, too, Ear. Thanks!
What's everyone else think?

Re: Need a little advice
Forgive my ignorance, but are the mac minis intel yet ? If so, I'd go with that. There might be a slight slow down at first because of rosseta, but in the long run I think it's worth it. With a Mac mini you will need to buy a monitor of course. Have you compared video cards ? (my mac knowledge has gone out the window in the past few years). What are the extra apps ? Are they worth it, will you actually use them ?
canadian of course

Yes the Minis are now Intel. Just happened a couple weeks ago. Don't plan on gaming on it tho 'cause it's got and integrated Intel shared ram GPU.

Yeah, I don't see a PPC based mac being a good investment anymore. Try to get a cheap intel based mini or imac, they're the future.

Re: Need a little advice
Hello my Odin!
Thanks for the advice, guys. I decided not to go with it because truth be told, I want another child in 2007, so I need to concentrate on paying off bills. A new toy would be fun, but not as lifelong endearing as another leaf on our branch of the family tree.

A baby ?!? Don't bother. A Mac is a one time investement, a baby cost nothing to make but then you need to spend more and more, then they poop on ya.

Yes but you can't raise your Mac to be a pro ball player that you can retire on.
