Re: Therapy.
I've had some pretty poor psychotherapy. The therapist wasn't board certified. Next time I'm going to a real doctor. But it's a b**ch trying to find the right one.
I've taken Prozac for a long time, but now I've stopped. I feel better in some ways, worse in many. But it might be withdrawal.
The Loving-Kindness meditation helps me when my anger is getting the best of me.

I bought one of his books. It made a lot of sense and clarified a lot issues in my life.
BTW two words that are WAY overused in the helping profession are:
ISSUES and PROCESS
His show is pretty good. way better than oprah's. Hey he doesn't bulls**t and deals with behaviour, not just feelings.

Re: Therapy.
Actually, Dr. Phil is a talented and intelligent psychologist. He helps a lot of people. What do you have against him, the fact that he was affiliated with Oprah?

My beef with Dr. Phil is some of the terribly obvious advice he gives.
"Help me Dr. Phil, I'm addicted to the internet!"
"Well, lets just gloss over any of the reasons why... instead, just turn off your computer!"

Re: Therapy.
The one time that I spoke with a shrink (I was failing out of college again, and this was stressing me out) he talked with me for about 20 minutes before trying to prescribe two different anti-depressants.
I mean ... one session and he want to put me on mood altering drugs.
Well, he also gave me some good advice .. "You have got to tell you parents and be honest with them and yourself" - I took the advice, refused the drugs, and went back to school when I was old enough to take it seriously.
Still, they think those anti-depressants are like Pez candy, and I have met a few people that it messed up worse than crack. Sometimes the emotions are cranked up too high, and the drugs can help. Other times the drugs just make them kinda like a zombie. Emotions are you bodies way of telling you what you need to do, and removing them from the equation is kinda like putting your soul to sleep.

I really have to disagree there. Beyond that, everything is obvious after someone points it out logically.

Re: Therapy.
I've talked to a shrink on a weekly basis a couple of different times - never been recommended for drugs, though I've certainly self-medicated often enough. Modern Psychotherapy is a very mixed bag, certainly, but I would lean towards getting professional help and keeping an open mind - it is very easy to delude yourself about yourself.
Never watched Dr. Phil, so I can't offer an opinion on him.

I think you need therapy to help cure this insanely bad habit of resurrecting year-old threads that you've developed.

I never had any therapy.
Sometimes I think it would be fun to go see shrink and mess with their head for a change...

Re: Therapy.
Speech, family.
I was very skeptical about the family therapy, but much to surprise, it worked out very well. We went when my mother's new girlfriend first moved in and me and her weren't getting along well. We've had much fewer problems since.
The speech therapy was worthless. I really don't care if I have correct tongue position when I saw my S's, so shut up!
