Re: Dirty, Rusty, Pitted Metal Image in Photoshop
Personally, I'd do something like this by acquiring or referencing a real-world texture.
For example, take your rusty face tutorial. I think that one is a lot more successful since you're using photography as a source for a texture. You're able to capture all of the tiny idiosyncrasies that might get missed if you tried to replicate a weathered texture by hand.
That said, tutorials like these are a great way for people to get a feel for how particular tools function. Keep up the good work!

Re: Dirty, Rusty, Pitted Metal Image in Photoshop
Some years ago I went around with my camera and collected all sorts of natural texture shots to use in Photoshop.
Bricks, various rocks, lots of different metal surfaces, basically anything interesting I could find.
The I lost interest in the project and havent a clue what I did with all the files.

Thanks for the comment.
And you're right-normally, I would do that if I'm in a hurry (love collecting real-world textures), but I'm into the making process more than the get it done faster process, and for me, it's more fun to create it from scratch.
Sort of a-"I can go out and buy a pre-made model kit, or I can build it myself" philosophy.

I keep planning to do that with my new Canon 20D, but always find something else to do, sadly.

You're probably right, but strangely enough, statistically speakingmy making vines tutorial is my most popular tutorial.
Who knew so many people wanted to create vines from scratch!?!

Oh, yeah, I knew there was a reason I bought my Rebel. Thanks for reminding me.
And, ivanjs, I'm gonna have to check out your tutorials, I may find something useful in adding a little something when I get to making title cards for my documentary.

Thanks, HB. Many of them are sort of offbeat or unique in the photoshop tutorial universe (then again, some are pretty common things to do in PS), so hopefully you'll find something of use.
