http://apple.qj.net/uploads/articles_module/13558_iBikeMount.jpghttp://www.ibikemount.com/picts/sidebar-2.jpg

This is a cool Nano accessory especially for bikers like myself….
The features of the iBikeMount are:
Designed specifically for use of iPod nano
•    Easily attaches to a variety of handlebar sizes (22mm – 26mm)
•    No tools requires to attach or remove
•    Lightweight (1.4oz)
This thing is really on my biker’s list!!! big_smile

You can't just put it in you pocket like everybody else?

How insensitive.  Not everyone is fortunate enough to have pockets, you know. hmm

Re: iPod Nano on the Bike

I dunno, I think it would attract too much attention. Aside from that, your headphone/earphone wires would be swinging about, which is dangerous. Having the iPod there would be a distraction, pulling your eyes away from your path, and it is not all weather, unless it supports a case too.

Sticking it in a pocket, turning on the button lock, then using the remote seems safer. shrug

Tru dat.

I'd run the headphone cord under my shirt like I do when I mow the lawn.

Agreed. I guess it would be good if you were riding around in BFE, but I can't stand bikers wearing headphones / ear buds downtown or in popular recreational areas.

That said, I don't think it is legal in CA to ride a bike and wear both earbuds. Bikes are usually treated like cars when it comes to stuff like that. At the very least, you need one ear uncovered. Preferably both if you're riding around downtown.

Ohh, and people who ski / snowboard with earbuds / headphones also suck.

Yes. Illegal in some places, too.

Re: iPod Nano on the Bike

That's a cool idea for the case on the handlebars, and whoever can't ride with a distraction like that should probably learn to multitask better. Only problem with an iPod in your pocket, riding clothes don't usually have them and if they do they're on the back of the shirt.. While going up a hill or pedaling hard, it's not an easy thing to get to, even if you have a remote, hard to navigate..

I reckon this is another instance of people saying "A phone, who needs a phone. It's just something to keep people from getting exercise and other things" and of course, they're eating their words many times over.

I'd buy one if I knew where to get one.

I put my Nano in my pocket and put it to shuffle songs, it works fine while bike riding.

From http://bicycling.about.com/library/weekly/aa093001a.htm ,

Some states have made it illegal to operate a vehicle with headphones on and this usually includes a bicycle.

In Pennsylvania, cyclists are only allowed to have one earbud inserted while riding. The same goes for driving a car as far as I know, because headphones are illegal, but drivers can use cell phoen hands free devices that have one ear bud.

Marware makes a bike mount to go with the Sportsuit Convertible. It's probably pretty similar to this thing, except you get the armband+handstrap+belt clip with it. shrug

Bikers, runners, and people who use iPods at gyms rejoice: I found a shirt made for this very problem (the headphones flying all over the place during those activities) - I found some shirts that are made to hold the iPod headphone wires from flying around, plus it has a side pocket to hold the smaller (lighter) Nano and Shuffle (if you have hard drive-based iPod like I do, use a belt clip or something).

See it for yourself - www.podwearclothing.com

It's not perfect (it only has one pocket on one side) but I love using this shirt at the gym! I've knocked down my iPod more than once because of the stupid wires. BTW, sorry, I'm a little late to this post...wonder if anyone will even read it...?

Re: iPod Nano on the Bike

I want to second the notion about the danger of tangling your headphone cords. Or what I could imagine happening even more often: turn your head to check over your shoulder and the headphone cable yanks out of the iPod.

It just doesn't make sense to me to have a device that has part of it attached to me (headphones) and the other part attached to another object. Seems like a recipe for disaster of one kind or another. If you are going to spend your money why not just buy a case that straps onto your arm?

Frank

that podshirt would be good also for people like me who play drums with music on headphones. headphone cable and flailing do not go together very well.

Excuse me??? Responding to an old thread makes me less of a person???

First of all, the only way I even saw this post is because it came up during a search because I don't even frequent the Student Lounge and I don't look past the first page when doing a manual scan.

Second, I never understood people that wasted their time complaining when someone responded to an old thread. You would probably be first in line complaining if someone brought up a topic that had already been discussed saying: "that is what search is for!"

Most of the time I don't even look at the date of a thread when I am responding. Did this particular subject expire??? Do they not make iPods any longer? Or are people no longer listening to them when they ride their bike? Since everything in the thread is still valid, what difference does it make whether I replied last year or today?

Frank
