Problems Putting PC into Standby Mode
I'm pretty sure I know what's caused this - I put some cell phone software on the PC, so I can remove it if necessary, but it's quite handy, so I'd like to keep it if possible.
Since I installed the software, the PC wont go into standby - it goes through all the motions, then immediately wakes itself up again. Does anyone have any ideas how I can stop this without removing the software?
Thanks.

Re: Problems Putting PC into Standby Mode
I bought a external firewire Plexor DVD burner that won't let my machine go to sleep too.
Edit the registry and do a search for that software. Make sure it is all gone is he only thing I can thing of.

Re: Problems Putting PC into Standby Mode
I had a similar problem with my MCE box. I could put it into stand-by mode but could not enable hibernation. Turned out a trojan (Win95.Luna.2757.B, if it matters) had infected my system and taken up resisdence in the hibernation file, C:\hiberfil.sys. Once I cleaned it up the problem disappeared. Score one for Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite.

Re: Problems Putting PC into Standby Mode
OK, so I've removed the software, and come up clean on a Norton scan and an Adaware scan. I've looked at the registry, and I can't see any entires for the software that I thought was causing the problem.
There are no hardware conflicts - I was missing the RAID drivers, but I've installed them, and device manager now shows everything as being happy.
One thing I have noticed is that previously, when the PC would go into standby mode, I got two noises when I woke it - either for new hardware found or new peripherals found (can't be sure which as I never got a balloon to tell me). I'm going to try removing the peripherals one by one to see if it helps, but any other suggestions are definitely welcome. Thanks for the help so far

Re: Problems Putting PC into Standby Mode
I had a similar problem with my pc also. It wouldn't stay in stanby mode for more than 2 minutes. I had to go into the bios and change one setting. In one of your settings you need to disable 'wake at ping'. I guess the wording might be a little different on your sysyem, but it's a setting that wakes up your pc when it receives a signal from the net. After I turned that off, my pc stayed asleep until I woke it up. I hope this helps.

Thanks Loup - I changed a couple of settings in the bios and it now goes into standby. There wasn't anything obvious, so I changed a couple of power saving settings, but it seemed to do the job
