Re: Intel iBooks coming soon

1 1/2 years?  Dude, I got a iBook when I worked for them and a week later they updated them.  I didn't qualify for the swap due to a technicality.

Apple had better offer discrete graphics cards in a laptop under $2000 or I'll be pissed. roll

What, "Have fun?"

You don't need to game at 1600x1200 with 8xFSAA and 16X AA with every setting at its highest to have fun.

Ex: CS 1.6

Totally.  Agree.

I probably should have put a wink, wink in there, because I was just getting a jab in on the usual BS about how you can't game on anything but the highest-of-ends of computers and how Apple is always alleged to be lacking in that department with respect to graphics and speed.  That seems to be repeated around here by the same complainers ad-naseum.

Is that "pissed" as in angry or "pissed" as in drunk?  I think we have a conflict in usages.  Who let the Canadian in?  wink

Yes, because your GF3 has vertex shaders.  WoW makes use of them.  Integrated graphics simply don't cut it for any 3D gaming.

You're all better MacAddicts than I.  If the iBook replacements only have integrated graphics, I'm jumping ship and getting a Dell or HP.  And judging by the bump in mini pricing, the days of a sub $1K Mac laptop are firmly behind us.

The integrated graphics in the mini has vertex and pixel shaders. Why don't you stop whining and ask one of the people here with an Intel Mac Mini how it plays WoW?

Like here?  It doesn't run very well.  It's not just a Mac issue, Windows machines with integrated graphics don't run it very well either.  Even casual gamers should get at least a low-end graphics card.  Look at the results from the iMac, then the mini.  The iMac, with a dedicated graphics chip, runs the game much, much better.

For non-gaming apps the mini should work just fine.  People who do want to play games should look elsewhere.

Let's get this straight. It has pixel shaders. Vertex shaders (as well as transform and lighting) are handled on the CPU. I really thought that it would be better than the Radeon 9200 on previous Macs, but looking at the data so far has proved me wrong.

Which usually starts in April - for education institution buying.  If they don't have it on the shelves in volume by June/July - that is a problem.
