anyone think the apple's displays will go down in price

any time soon? I love their displays and their 20" has come down a lot but I still think there is still wiggle room for all three to come down, IMO. Any speculation on this?

Re: anyone think the apple's displays will go down in price

If you look at the MacRumors Buyer's Guide you'll notice that the last 3 updates to the monitors have been price cuts, and that the recent ~6 month cycle is up. I'd bet on either a price cut or new models when the new PowerMacs come out, which is in August. They seem to like to keep those in sync (as of the last 2 cycles), which makes sense.

I hope prices drop soon too. I'd love an Apple Display.

I'm guessing. August or September seemes to be what most sites are saying as the release time for the new chips. And Apple seems to really be on top of the transition, so I would expect them to be prompt.

Pick up a Dell LCD. Same high quality components, cheaper prices, ESPECIALLY in Canada. During certain time periods, Dell will undercut the prices of certain LCD's by almost $1000, but only in Canada big_smile

I'm intentionally waiting for August/Sept... well pretty much till the end of the year,  just to see if the displays are coming down in price.

Hahaha... that would be sweet! It could have like 3 slot-loading drive bays on the side and instead of the iMac's camera, it could have stereo HD cameras for 3D HD videoconferecing! And it could print money out the bottom! For free!

Ok, maybe not that, but it sure would be cool to see.

Well, maybe people here aren't the raving, foaming-at-the-mouth zealots you seem to take them for after all, huh? Go figure.

You're scoring high on the troll-scale, lately. I suggest you take it down a notch or two.

Apple may lower it's prices more but they will never lower them as far as Dell.

Why does apple charge so much?
Dell (yup, I said it) practically gives them away when you buy a computer. How different are the components apple uses? Are they even, or do people just pay for the design?

1. we are probably paying out the nose for the little apple on the display
2. perhaps some of the parts (not necessarily the screen) apple uses cost more.

Just a guess.

Apple's monitors are SWOP Certified.

True.  True.  That, and the fact that Apple looks good and the Dell looks industrial and boring.

While they use the same LCD panel, Apple uses a better backlight.  Also, early Dell models had some fairly significant problems with color and consitency, as described in the Ars Technica review, while the Apple did not, further indicating that there are some significantly different (probably better) components in the Apple.

Re: anyone think the apple's displays will go down in price

dell's 24w display has USB 2.0 ports (i think 4) as well as a 9 in 1 card reader for cameras, $999.00 too. however the fram is plastic whereas apple's is metal, which might also be a significant reason for cost differences. At least I think apple's are metal, I can't remember and I don't have one.

I'd agree apple has something over dell such as the backlight and what not.
