And there you go. . . partisan mud slinging again. . . you just can't stop, hillybilly, because you want to piss people off.

It's possible to look at the idea of 'truth' in several ways. Some view it as something to be sought by personal quest. Some people view it as something to be arrived at through debate. Some people see it as an iron sausage to be rammed up soneone's arse.

You're not necessarily conservative, you're just pugnaceous. You can't argue your views to the point where you actually shut the opposing viewpoint down by the weight of your argument so you resort to numerous posts designed to shock or inflame.

It's interesting that you would say this, in light of the recent thread here about the group in that other forum disparaging MAF posters. Oh, we have our exceptions here. . . and there are partisan mud slingers on both 'sides' here. . . but I hope that I've cleared this up for you, at least as far as my personal convictions are concerned.

I'm not putting you on any side.  As I said, it was an observation, and it could be applied to several people here.  You are calling out hillybilly for his "partisanship."  It would be nifty to see some of you do the same for the more left leaning posters, but I won't hold my breath waiting on that to happen.

As someone on the political left, I've noticed it doesn't always register with me when other lefties start calling righties names, but I do notice it every time a rightie starts up. I think whether or not someone notices it has to do with perspective and what issues they're sensitive to. That's why I encourage anyone on any side to call it when they see it.

If Isaly doesn't correct lefties when they start up, then I hpoe that a rightie will get in there and set things straight. I also hope that just because the lefties don't always notice when they're doing it, or letting it go unchecked, that it doesn't become an excuse for making it acceptable for righties to do the same things. (And vice versa.)

That being said, I think Isaly's analysis of hillbilly's "debate" style is dead on.

People on the political right who have the ability to use logic and reason manage to hang here just fine, and, at worst, they earn a measure of grudging respect from the lefties. I look forward to the debates with these people.

At the same time, there are lots of places where the lefties disagree with each other on an issue. When that happens, the people who resort to "hillbilly-like" tactics are dismissed in just the same way a lot of us are beginning to dismiss hillbilly. It doesn't matter one bit that they're on "our side" of of aisle.
