The Apple Notebook Lineup

Ok, so we're starting to see things unfold here in terms of the Intel switch. We've got the new minis, iMacs, and finally 15" and 17" MBPs. Still lingering, of course, are the 12" PB and the old and dying 12" and 14" iBooks.

Now, there've been a lot of people saying that there's a new 13.3" ... well... laptop that Apple's going to roll out, and some say that it'll replace the iBooks, and others say it'll replace the 12" PB, and a few more say both.

But that kind of replacement would leave too big a gap if it isn't handled correctly. There would need to be solid models from $999 to $1499 that are well equiped enough for the pros, and just good enough for someone who wants an Apple-branded laptop but doesn't have the cash.

What kind of specs do you guys see on the new line of 13.3 inchers? Or, if you were Steve, what would you do with the lineup to switch it up?

Re: The Apple Notebook Lineup

It would be nice if Apple made an ultraportable with a 10" screen or so and right around 2.4lbs.

Re: The Apple Notebook Lineup

Given the fact that the iBooks pretty much mirror the PPC mini, I'm guessing the new MacBook will have the 1.5GHz Core solo or 1.67GHz Core Duo, 60 or 80GB HD and GMA 950 graphics.  With the heat issues with the MBP, they may not be able to use a dedicated graphics chip.

Exactly why I just bought a 12'' PB... I don't need a primary powerhouse but I would at least like to be able to run Motion on the little beastie.  GMA just won't cut the mustard.

iMac Core Duo, 1.83 GHz AKA Pegasus
PowerBook 12'' 1.5 GHz... no nickname yet.

Having ran Motion on a 12" PB and Motion on a MBP...  Don't get me wrong, I loved my 12" PB... but I don't miss it.

Just make it so the 13.3 with Core Solo and Intel Graphic at $999, Core Duo with Ati x1300 at $1399

Re: The Apple Notebook Lineup

Core Duo and Core Solo 13.3" models could easily complete the MacBook lineup, replacing both the iBooks and the 12" PowerBook. Other specs can be the same, Apple shouldn't want a confusing myriad of models. Want better graphics? Buy a bigger 'Book.

I would rather draw by hand.  Motion is bad enough on my 17" PB.

The grapevine is insisting that the iBook replacement (which may not be MacBook) will not have a Core Solo.

I'm right there.  I love my MacBook Pro, but if I could trade it in for an ultraportable, I would in a second.

Tiger Server, not so bad now. Automator, however, still sucks.
