New Apple logo
Hi everyone [1st post here]
Sorry if this is the wrong forum. Or, even, compeltely the wrong kind of message board.
BUT...
I've come up with something which I think you might like. I'm really pleased with it. A new Apple Logo. It combines the old vintage colours with the modern sheen of the silver one, into an ultra-contemporary, unique and reminiscent design (I hope!)
I love doing graphics so I thought I might just pop by onto the MacAddicts site....
enjoy:::
Tell me if you can spot any crap parts - or whether you hate it altogether...
By the way, I love Apple and I wouldn't want to infringe copyright or anything --- I started this design from scratch on photoshop using the pen tool etc. Okay, it uses the same exact colours and shape so sorry.

Re: New Apple logo
I like it a lot. I have to say though - the bottom part of the bite of the Apple - there is too much white. It's almost a spot instead of the glow that you are after.

Re: New Apple logo
Thanks. Actually now that I have a second look at it. the stem of the Apple also has white that is too thick. The bottom of the Apple is done really well.
Once those things are changed, I would call it Perfect. With a capital "P."

Apple won't use the color logo again. But, I have the color Apple sticker on my car, and I like it.

Funny how we had the colorful logo with the dull computers, and now we have a dull logo (color-wise) with much cooler computers. Go figure.

I see what you're saying, but not all of Apple's previous computers were dull, IMO.

Re: New Apple logo
Right, i've managed to update the logo. Unfortunately, due to the process before, there's quite a jagged line around the edge. It's now 1px. To get it less jagged, i'd have to blur it (but i have blending options on).
I also made a transparent version (no-preview through IE, fortunate--i mean-- unfortunately).

Re: New Apple logo
I like it. But Apple is going for simplicity and won't ditch the single-colored logos anytime soon. How did you make it transparent?

yeah. but, perhaps in the future, when everyone goes the "apple way" of having boring one color logos, apple might turn it on its head and come back with a bang. ya never know!!
How did you make it transparent?
do you mean? how is it transparent? or what exactly did i do to achieve transparency? well, to answer both:
the second one is transparent round the edges.
i used "PNG, 24-bit" color, which supports something called Alpha Transparency. Alpha is another channel, like RGB, that acts as a underlay (or overlay) to gradually blend an image into its container.
hope that helps.
thx.

Re: New Apple logo
It looks good at that size but doesn't look much different than the original one when you shrink it down since the highlights are barely noticable (pic). The drop shadow makes it less flat though.

Re: New Apple logo
Yeah, you're right mate. I guess perhaps a more noticeable highlight would benefit it being smaller.

Compared to the PCs on the market at the time, Apple's old computers were decidedly NOT dull (at least, post-LC series days). Particularly their laptops.

Good job. For what it is worth, I'd love to see the color logo come back.
