That still sounds like a lot of money. Or is it worth it?

oh, bullsmurf. The Phat DS is fine. Especially if a Lite slips through your fingers.

I want to try one out because I'm perfectly fine with my original.

No you don't. I will indeed vouch for 'sumi. The Lite kicks the ever-living crap out of the phat. It's a much sleeker form factor, the stylus is a vast improvement, and the screens are absolutely amazing. The brightness is astonishing, the colors immensely more vivid, and the sharpness is an order of magnitude improved. Dark grainy section of Metroid Prime Hunters that were a chore on the Phat turned into a breeze on the Lite. It was almost like playing a new game. Details that were previously invisible because crystal clear, and washed-out textures became razor sharp and brightly colored. It was nothing short of a revelation.
Yes, Phy is right in that the Phat is indeed fine, but fine merely means adequate. The Phat will play all your games, handles well enough, and isn't an embarrassment. But the Lite is a better system by far by pretty much every metric imaginable. If you're satisfied with your Phat stay far far away from a Lite, because you won't be satisfied for long. Even 30 minutes with 'Sumi's Lite had me preordering one of my own (cocaine white though instead of the bitchin' navy he has).

Yeah, because when you say "sleeker form factor", that makes me cringe. Those shoulder buttons are already hard enough to press. Give me more to hold onto, not less!
Anyway, I guess time will tell. I'll have to try both again before buying.

Ok so i've been playing some old classic Advanced Wars again, maybe or maybe not during Business Comm class, I can't divulge my secrets to getting my 1337 grades
. Think I will get one of these now when they come out. I need an Advance Wars fix. I missed the 2nd one cause I didnt want to pay $30 for it and a friend of mine sold his copy before I could buy it off him so, guess i'll get me a Lite and Dual Strike after I pay off my $300 7800GS bill
.

Some of you may have seen that but it is a special promo DS Lite that Nintendo has sent out. Take notice of the unique box design.

Hallelujah! This thread has been resurrected! Praise the Nintendo gods!
Seriously, tho, I am first on the preorder list at my local game store, so I will have mine tomorrow. I picked up New Super Mario Bros and Brain Age last time I was at the store. (Dividing the cost up over time, you know.) I'm excited.

Re: DS Lite in the US: June 11, $129
I just bought one.
Now I have to return it, because it has a bad pixel. This is the same problem I had when I bought a GB micro.
(To agree with others here, I can't imagine why anyone would purchase an original DS now that the lite is out. I'm assuming they'll be phasing out the old one, and it's certainly inferior.)

Re: DS Lite in the US: June 11, $129
There was no need for me to have preordered mine. The store I bought mine from had sold out all of their preorders, but the Best Buy in the same strip mall had a huge stack of them. So my wife and I both picked one up. Waiting for them to charge now...

Waiting for it to charge? Mine came more or less fully charged. Played Mario Bros. for about 1 1/2 hours off the battery, and only now plugged it in because I'm done playing.

Um. You're supposed to charge it before you use it, IIRC.

Yeah, the instruction manual says to charge it fully before use. It didn't take too long. I spent way too much time today playing SMB and Castlevania while my wife took on Brain Age and Princess Peach.

I picked up a Lite at Target yesterday (gave Aaron my original DS) and it is damn sexxy. Even nicer than I imagined. I need to go to gamestop to pick up some screen protectors today. I love this little thing!

Re: DS Lite in the US: June 11, $129
I advise checking your screens carefully, if you buy one.
When I took mine back for a bad pixel, the woman that assisted me in customer service said that she had already had a couple of exchanges for the same reason. I opened the second one in the store and checked out the screens before I left.

Mine was on the top screen, not the bottom like yours.
I'm pretty sure they can end up anywhere.

Re: DS Lite in the US: June 11, $129
No stuck pixels on mine. Lucked out I guess.
Gotta say, this thing is amazing. The form factor is so much prettier than the old version, and the screens are astonishing. New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Castlevania, and especially Metroid Prime Hunters nearly look like brand new games they're so much more bright and vivid. Parts that were too dark and murky on the old DS now pop with far more brightness, color, and razor sharpness. It may have been $130, but that was money well spent.
