12" ibooks any good still?
Need something for school...
was going to get a macbook pro but being a poor student i think its abit too much.
So is the 12" ibook any good still? Would i be better off waiting until like, macbook vanilla or something?. I don't really need it until next semester but i wouldn't mind getting one now and getting used to it and stuff.

Re: 12" ibooks any good still?
wait. no question there
This site is good to use to see timing on buying an Apple product (not iPods, but computers). As you can see, it's been a long time between the last two iBook upgrades. Way too long, in fact. I can't believe that Apple has let this go on this long, considering that this is the market they need to be attracting people to if they are actually serious about switching people over.
MacBook should be out in a month or less (really 2 weeks I would hope). Any more than that would just be embarassing (if it's possible to be any more embarassing than it already is.

Re: 12" ibooks any good still?
You might also check retail stores (not apple retail stores, other mac dealers) after the new machines are released. Many retailers put HUGE HUGE discounts on the previous models once they get new ones in (sometimes it takes about a month though). I work at a retail store, and a co-worker bought a brand new PowerBook G4 12" for $650 after new ones came out, a Dual 1.8Ghz G5 tower for $950 (which later broke and he traded up to a quad from apple for a grand total for $1850 for the quad).
I am gonna be picking up some brand new Mac Mini 1.42 G4s soon for about $200 each if all goes well. It'll be good.
goodbye

Re: 12" ibooks any good still?
Im really tempted just get the pro now, i mean it probably wont drop significantly in the next 6 months right?
Also, i'd need to buy like 10.5 if i wanted to run bootcamp? that's abit nasty IMHO seeing how its not that far away and they're making me spend more money. The only reason I'd want bootcamp atm is so i can run office pro which i have for pc already just to save $200. Other than that in a couple years i might want to upgrade and give it to my mum for her work - shes a stenographer and needs software and hardware that only works on pc so a g4 would be useless i guess, so i'd hope that a macbook running windows be able to do pretty much anything a dell lappy could right?
Also, whats with the applecare stuff? $600? Im no noob and don't really need telephone support, but if people are willing to spend $600 incase it might break....well that's really isn't a good indication of quality.
Oh and hows the battery life on the macbooks?

AppleCare for iBooks is $187 for students. $249 for everyone else.

That means I over charged a bunch of people $4 on AppleCare. Now I won't sleep again. And it's all your fault.
HOW DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL?!

Oh, stop complaining. Just go to your Doc and get some sleeping pills
. They'll put you to sleep, and I will be able to live with myself once again.

Re: 12" ibooks any good still?
Ok, i think ill just get the macbook pro, thanks for the help guys.
lol i had a look today right, and the 15" feels alot hotter than the 17", i could have just been because the 17" wasn't doing anything as opposed to me running about 5 things at once with the 15", or it could be that the 17" has a larger surface area so it can dissipate heat faster...

Re: 12" ibooks any good still?
I'm not sure that a later revision would come out this year-probably next? Although there may be small bumps, as there were to the CPU speeds on the Macbook Pro. (A 1.83 or 2GHz Core Duo is already an almost top of the line CPU though that's very fast.)
