I swear that this morning I read the word "optional" on the MacBook's product page.... now I can't seem to find it.
Moreover, if you go to the store there are no options for a non-glossy display.

Re: glossy screens - good or bad
it is an option on the pros. I never realized until today when I went to work (Micro Center) that about 75% of the PCs they sell have glossy screens. I actually really like it, but never noticed it before today. I ordered a black macbook. im a fanboy.

Mark this down, by this time next year, 90% [include Apple] of latop order by customer will be glossy, it is simply better for looking (sharper font/better color for video/game) then matt finsih.

Optional on MBP only.
From what I've read elsewhere the screen has a gloss coating, not one of the gloss 'panes' like some other laptops out there.
Lo and behold, I write that and then find this.

Is it true that most PC laptops have teh Glossy'd™ screen? I just have never noticed(read "looked at them") . . .

Re: glossy screens - good or bad
I wouldn't want glossy on everything. I'd like a choice (and given it I'd never choose glossy), which is how the MBP is right now.
I wonder if we'll see new displays anytime soon?

That article is pretty much right on target. I can certainly admit that glossy screens "look cooler" mainly because they're shiny. However, when I first saw a glossy screen, after that initial "ooh, that's pretty!" feeling I immediately realized that the glare situation would suck. I'll stick to my non-reflecting screen, thank you.

Last time I was in Best Buy, every laptop had a glossy screen.

Re: glossy screens - good or bad
I've actually seen really good plasma TVs that have no reflection (more than normal for any TV) and had a full viewing angle (if I could see the screen, I could see the image as good as possible).

Was this no reflection from the sun, or the overhead lights in the store?

Probably not because they were set up in such a way inside the store to minimize those effects (lighting not as bright in the area, dark carpeting, brightness of the TV turned up to maximum, etc).
