FCP taking forever to reneder

Is there any reason final cut pro would take 14 hours to render a 14 min imported avi file?

If you're using a PowerBook, I can believe it.

Re: FCP taking forever to reneder

it all depends on the quality of the AVI (codec, dimensions)...and the power of the machine.

In short....yup.

It may take longer depending on your OS version, FCP version, memory, hard drive(s) and especially your processor.  I've done rendering on an older G3 with FCP 2...it took three days to export 45 minutes of footage.

Lets just say i am a big fan of multi-core processing nowadays.

Try exporting from FCPro as a ref movie and then opening in Quicktime Player Pro and try the same export.  I have found FCPro seems to have some issues that QT Player Pro doesn't when it comes to exporting.

Re: FCP taking forever to reneder

If you ever use a format that isn't set for your FCP timeline, you'll have to render. It's best to use QuickTime Pro or Compressor to turn the AVI file into your desired format before you import it into Final Cut Pro. Then in FCP, you can play and edit it in real time.
