Anyone bought RAM from OWC?
Ever had any trouble with it? I'm looking at some RAM for a new MacBook from there. It's the OWC brand 1GB (2 x 512MB) kit.

OWC is best in class.

Why would you want to buy 2 512MB sticks? The MacBook only has 2 RAM slots. It already has 512MB. Did you mean the 2GB (2 x 1GB) kit?

Nope, I was wrong I have OCZ. It was affordable and had the specs, and it works, so whatever.

The Macbook has 2x256. If you want matched pairs, its 2x512 for you!

I've bought from OWC, Crucial and TransInt'l - haven't had problems with any of them. I just check all 3 when I need ram and buy from who is cheapest on what I need.

Re: Anyone bought RAM from OWC?
OWC is great! I've bought RAM, and also their in-house line of Mercury external drives and a CD burner. All have worked excelently with no problems.
They sent me the wrong RAM, once. The return was all handeled by e-mail and I had the correct RAM within three days. Only problem I've ever had with them.
They also have a good e-mail newsletter.

I did not know that. I was assuming they just had 1 512MB stick like the iMacs. Thats kind of crappy.

It's actually due to the integrated graphics. The Mac mini has the same issue. With matched pairs, the memory can work at its full potential, and maximum speed.

Re: Anyone bought RAM from OWC?
Well, the Macbook Pros also have this kind of RAM even with a dedicated graphics card. It's because they use dual channel DDR memory but to take advantage of the speed boost that produces, you have to install in matched pairs.

I understand the dual channel memory concept, which is why I have two 512MB sticks in my iMac. I was thinking along the lines of having to buy 2 512MB sticks instead of 1 to upgrade to 1GB of RAM. I guess it makes sense to ship them with pairs of 256 though. I bet it runs more efficient that way. The iMac is sluggish with just 1 512MB stick.

From what I have read, the speed gains on the iMac with matching pairs isn't that great. It does make a big difference on machines that do not have dedicated video memory though.
Any Mac would run sluggish with just 512 MB of RAM. I wouldn't use a machine with less than 1 GB.

Agreed. Seems kind of like a waste of money if you don't upgrade the RAM to at least 1 GB.

Re: Anyone bought RAM from OWC?
Same here. 1GB at the least.
I've gotten RAM from Crucial (My original iMac) and OWC (My second iMac). No problems with either. I think I used Crucial again for my iMac 333 (eBay) just because I needed to push that one over 128MB and it was cheap.
