Microsoft Wireless Desktop....for Mac (?!)
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouse … px?pid=078
That's rather interesting; I'm not quite sure what to make of it. I look forward to seeing a full shakedown review.

Should there be a big deal over another wireless mouse and keyboard?
Unless it does laundry it should just be added to the list.

Re: Microsoft Wireless Desktop....for Mac (?!)
It is supposed to be a Mac "only" (read specific) mouse and keyboard from Microsoft. That is what is intresting™ . . .
My boss has one for review purposes . . . he really likes it though the curved "ergo" keyboard takes a little getting use to . . .

What about those features like the "Magnifier"
are those built into OS X, or added from the Mouse and Keyboard installer?

Does Microsoft advertise hardware in MacAddict magazine? Didn't think so. Kensington and Macally do. Who will you support?

Re: Microsoft Wireless Desktop....for Mac (?!)
How does it actually connect to your Mac? is it Bluetooth or does it use a proprietiory wireless USB connector?

Re: Microsoft Wireless Desktop....for Mac (?!)
I happen to like Microsoft mice. They are the right size for my hand, whereas Logitech is too small and others tend to be too big. This looks like one that they already have out, but with the appropriate Control, Option, ? keys in that order.

All of microsofts keyboards and mice have been mac compatible since OS9. All it looks to be is a more expensive version of a current model that has different default buttons.

Re: Microsoft Wireless Desktop....for Mac (?!)
mjsmitho hit the nail on the head.
The reason I found this unusual is that this is a Mac keyboard coming from Microsoft. Not a Mac/Windows compatible device, but a Mac-specific piece of hardware.
As far as whether I'll buy it...probably not -- I'm happy with my Apple keyboard and Logitech mouse right now. I'm not a Microsoft fan, by any means...but I'm also not going to completely write off a new device just because it's Microsoft-branded.

The mouse that I really like is the Microsoft Trackball Optical, of course it is discontinued and I cannot find them anymore.

It's a USB thing, not Bluetooth.
I think it's pretty, though.

*The Magnifier is not compatible with Direct3D ® API in full screen mode, media players, OpenGL, and Layered Windows. If you are using Mac OS X, the Magnifier enlarges text and images on the entire screen.

Re: Microsoft Wireless Desktop....for Mac (?!)
Yeah, the "magnifier" as implemented by the Zoom slider is installed via software. In fact, it wasn't until Intellitype version 6.0 that the slider even worked worked OS X. (I've got the Microsoft Digital Media Pro keyboard, and have been quite happy with it. It was on sale at Target a while back, and work's just fine. I like the media buttons, the favorite buttons, etc... kinda cool to be able to play music, launch Word, Thunderbird, Firefox, iChat and others from the keyboard without too much fuss programming buttons.) Also, the color matches my MDD and kinda matches my Logitech Marble Mouse (although the trackball is a bit darker grey). The zoom slider is kinda nice when viewing web pages and images are either too large or too small, also when you run into the odd webpage where the text is not the most ideal size.

It looks like a short cut to option-command-8 and option-command- -/+
And if you ask me, that's a -very- smart idea. Considering the popularity of high pixel density monitors, zooming and resizable content is starting to become very important.

Did anyone else buy one of these and then subsequently have problems with the wireless? It's working, but constantly complaining about low signal, etc. I'm wondering if it's just a dud? I did try changing the batteries without much luck there either.

Sounds like they just mapped the magnifying feature added in 10.4.8

Re: Microsoft Wireless Desktop....for Mac (?!)
I'd give my left one for a Mac specific MS Natural Keyboard with the nice tactile feel of a ThinkPad notebook keyboard or something that feels similar. Oh, and a new freaking design in trackballs. Seriously, a real successor to the TrackMan would be nice.
