Re: There Must Be Another Election Coming Up...
Of course they're pandering, that's the name of the game these days. They're all puppets, puppets on strings for the lobbyists.

Yes I realize that, but won't it backfire if they can't even get it put to a vote? Doesn't it make them look ineffectual and useless?
Hell, do they even have all their own senators on board? They don't need to actualy do anything, just sound like they want to. That'll guarantee them plenty of votes even if it never gets past talking stage.

Will numbskulls vote for these guys even if they're just going through the motions in an obvious play for support? I mean, it's so damn transparent, they're not even trying to dress it up anymore!
Yes, it is that bad. The wacky fundies are inordinately credulous people.
Really it's a prerequisite for being a fundie really. You have to be willing and able to swallow and digest the sort of raw bull smurf thinking people spit out in disgust.
Pandering is informative both on the panderer and the target of that pandering.
I would say a solid 25% of the current republican base will eat up this anti-homo stuff.
Oh, ya The turnout in 2004 was 55%

The answer is yes.
I'm not dead yet.

Would you consider the Dem pandering to the minority base in the same light?

It isn't just a these days things. It has always been that way and was predicted to be that way. What wasn't predicted was that we would develop such a homogeny of parties (or party I guess, these days).

Basically except the Dems base requires much higher quality pandering.
All you have to feed the Fundies is some bible flavored hate and they eat it up.

Re: There Must Be Another Election Coming Up...
If only there were an effective and viable 3rd party we wouldn't have this kind of problem. We don't want either of the two parties in power, because they both go back to being as ineffective and/or outrightly destructive as before. Quite honestly I'm rather bothered by anyone who thinks that we should have any more laws in this country--the next Congressional move needs to be one to delete probably 1/3 or more of what is on the books and in the budget, but of course none will do that.

John Stewart gave Bill Bennett the what-for on this last night. It was great. All Bennett could do is keep repeating talking points.

There won't be until more people join them. You might as well. There's not much left to lose...you might as well make your vote stand for something even if it doesn't win. That's why I went Green, but Libertarian might be more your style.
