Production WLAN going in, your thoughts?
This is a wireless network I'm rolling out at a Boy Scout Camp where I am the second in charge, going to use use ZoneCD to do our filtering, it will be planted between the sattelite ISP and the Access Point
this is at a camp where we have line of site between structures from their roofs/tops, here is a list of buildings and ditances:
A-frame: where our internet access comes in
Parker Water tank: 1 3/4 miles from A-frame
Beaver/Silca Lodge: 1/2 mile from water tank
Retreat center: 2 miles from Parker water Tank
Parts List:
4x 10"x10"x 4-6" ABS Plastic outdoor enclosures, weatherproof
plywood to make a base for on top of the A-Frame, Parker water tank, Silva, and Beaver Lodge.
4-5x WRT54GL's routers
5x 24 dbi 2.4 Ghz WLAN antennas
1x 15 dbi 2,4 Ghz Omnidirectional antenna
10x RP-TNC to N-Male adapters
10x feed-through weatherproof RJ-45 adapter
1x 3' N-male to N-male cord
various antenna mounts
Solar Panel/charger
12v nicad
Cat 5e cabling
power supplies
various parts
The setup for summer:
-A-Frame: the satellite transceiver>router>roof mounted access point (consisting of power over ethernet, WRT54G, 24 Dbi antenna)> transmitting to water tower
-Parker water tank: WRT54G in Bridge/repeater mode with omnidirectional antenna. powered by solar cell and nicad, mounted on plywood platform. repeating signal to parker area:
-Silva/Beaver Lodge: WRT54G in bridge/repeater mode providing access to wired/wireless clients
in the off season the Silva/beaver lodge gear could be used with another bridge/repeater to give access to the retreat center.
we will be usind the latest stable DD-WRT firmware on the WRT's. also using : http://www.publicip.net/ for filtering and user control/tracking and all that.
