Zarqawi (sp?) is gone
Looks like he was shot in a raid?
Also looks like they wasted no time getting to word out on that one.

It is the middle of the day in Iraq, you know. And the Army does more before 6 a.m. than the rest of us do all day.

Wish they got him alive, would have been a lot more meaningful.

Alive would have been good, but dead is acceptable. Now if they could just find Bin Ladin...

"Alive" would have meant that they'd have to produce a live actor to play the part. This way, they can just find a random corpse (or make one of their own) that looks like the character that they've created for propaganda purposes, and can trot pictures around as they wish. Dead, non-Zarqawis don't talk, which will keep the plebs in the dark.

Actually the entire Iraq war is being filmed in studio 7B, a bit cramped but it gets the job done.
Just like back in Saigon! Eh, slick?

Is that where they filmed the lunar landing?

It's a big deal and it isn't.
I have no doubt there will either be a replacement, or there will be more blood as the other factions take advantage of it.
Quite possibly some nasty retaliation against us.

Re: Zarqawi (sp?) is gone
Retaliation or not, the obsession with him reminded me of Vietnam, when the Pentagon was obsessed with taking out COSVN ... the supposed Vietcong "Pentagon," supposedly located somewhere in the jungle. Yet even had they located it and destroyed it utterly, wouldn't have made a difference in strategic terms. Ditto, I think, for Zarqawi.

Re: Zarqawi (sp?) is gone
Iraq has turned a corner.
Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.

Another one of Iran's enemies taken out courtesy of Uncle Sam.
Coincidental, but still...

and the women come out to cut up what remains,
just roll to your rifle and blow out your brains,
and go to your god like a soldier...

Re: Zarqawi (sp?) is gone
I just heard an interesting speculation - I don't know if there is much too it.
Aparently Zarqawi (sp?) had fallen out of favor with OBL because he called one sect of Islam to attack another, when OBL wanted the two to unite against the United States.
The speculation is that OBL ordered his location leaked to get rid of him.
If that's the case, then there is already a replacement chosen.

Saw an interesting quote from Rumsfeld:
No one has had more blood on his hands of innocent Iraqi men, women and children.
To which I can't help but say "Fascinating analysis."

It would have been nice to air strike him before we invaded Iraq, but his existence was more useful as a Talking Point.

He can always deny it in the next news cycle.

"No, I didn't. I never said that."
Touch, Rumsfeld.

Re: Zarqawi (sp?) is gone
DailyKos has this interesting link.
Reportedly, Zarqawi was captured like a year ago, but Iraqis didn't correctly identify him, so he was released.

The NPR article had him prefacing that with something like "over the past two or three years, no one has had...", which is less of a problem quote.
It's a paradox of how sharply dull I am.

That's better. that narrows it down to Zarqawi and...Rumsfeld, I think.
