No Motivation
Ever since a little before I got pregnant, my time spent playing computer games has gone downhill. Now, I find myself going months and months without gaming and I don't really miss it. I miss the camraderie and I miss feeling that I acheived something requiring skill whenever I would make a great InstaGib shot and take off someone's head, but I don't miss sitting in front of the computer for hours on end. I sit here for a total of about half an hour daily checking internet and emails at intervals.
Other than that, I've gotten back into the hobbies I had before I gamed: reading, cooking, tv.
I just have no motivation to play. There are not really any games out there that call me and it seems that the games that do come out are not coming out as frequent as they used to. The good games are few and far between.
*sighs* Anyone else going through the same quasi-crisis?

Yes.
Except that I'm using my computer MORE frequently, just not for playing games.

Nope.
I'd rather play TV than watch it.

You've just got a lot more real life going on Sue. When the kids are grown and gone, you'll probably pick up gaming again.
I'll echo Llevi's comments. I'd much rather play than passively watch.

I tend to agree, but then shows like Lost and the new Battlestar Galactica come along...
A TV show also isn't as time consuming as most games are.

Re: No Motivation
I don't watch *that* much tv. I watch Amazing Race and Survivor when they're on, and sometimes NCIS (probably not now that Mark Harmon's gone) and also occassionaly, CSI.
I really love reading, though. It's so.....quiet. And you'd be amazed how many big words trashy romance novels throw in there. I think they try to use big words to comensate for lack of plot. Although, I do like the Nerd Book Romance series. Mostly, James Patterson and some Piers Anthony. I can't read enough of the Incarnations of Immortality series.
So far as kids grown, Kirk....we want to have a large family and my son is the first of hopefully at least 5. I have a feeling that I won't get true time to myself again for at least another 3 decades. LOL!

Re: No Motivation
Wow! I had no idea you had a baby! Or ... maybe I just cant remember .. days seem to run all together anymore. lol
I sooooo know the feeling! I miss all the guys - the fragging I seem to have grow out of .. unless I really Really need to let of some steam..
I've got a family now. No more time for killin. I do miss it, but like I said, talking to everyone was a big part of that - the part I miss the most. I catch MTM every now and then and chat for a bit. But really no one else. To partially quote a song .. "I've lost ... that fraaaaaggin feeeeelin .."
If I'm Lucky .. I get BOTH the boys (who are 4 years -jake and 6 months today - Jesse) down for a nap at the SAME time .. I play the Sims2 for a bit. But even that can't compete to a good book sometimes. GaK! Am I a .... grownup?!?! NoOOOOOOOO!!
Anyway, I know whatcha mean! (If ya ever need some 'mom talk' Im around from time to time
)

Um so...do these kids stay up all night or what!?!
Anything after 8PM is my time. It's not finding time...it's making time for a favorite hobby.

Re: No Motivation
I was thinking last night that some may thing that I'm just whining and that wasn't the intent of this thread. I was just curious if others had found the same lack of good, new games that I have or if they've also just wandered away from gaming.
Levi- I work from 6 pm (after my husband gets home from his office job) to usually about 2 am, sometimes 3 am. Luckily, Christopher is amazing. He gets tired around 10, puts himself down to sleep and won't get up until about 10 the next morning. If he knocks on his bedroom door and I don't answer by opening it, he'll play quietly until I come get him....no screaming, no temper tantrums, no door beating. Good kid. Hard to believe he's related to me.
PL- He'll be 2 September 25th and I still have trouble understanding that I'm actually a mommy. Minivan: $16,000. Toys in purse: $2. Potty training, Dora, Wiggles, Muppet Videos: $25 off ebay. Quiet time and a dose of sanity while driving: Priceless!

Re: No Motivation
I have two. Ages four and seven. Bed time has always been around 8PM...earlier when they were younger and still prone to sleeping for twelve hours. It's not that I think you're whining or such. Just stating the opposite. My desire is still as strong as when we got our first Atari 2600 so many years ago. It's just that people make time to do things they enjoy. I happen to enjoy games A LOT and manage to find a few spare hours every week to play something. Most of those few hours happen in the eves after the kids are in bed. My point is if someone really wanted to play they would. So SQ has lost the desire, no crime, it happens.
I will take issue on the said lack of quality games.
::coughcoughbullstinkiescoughcough::
Of course I have THE bestest kids in the world.
;P
They go to bed when asked. Eat what's on their plate (even asparagus & broccoli). If only we could curb the brother/sister squabbles...I guess I'll have to get a bigger stick. d'oh! hell did I just say that out loud!

Re: No Motivation
I saw them just recently. They are good kids.
Of course, they were both around the HDTV earlier on, and the lad played some Halo 2... can't remember if the daughter played any.

So you get passive with TV, just for shorter periods than being active with games?
I do think there are quite a few good games out. There isn't as much buzz for any one or some few game[s] as formerly, tho, it seems, and we all go thru phases.
Maybe UT2007 will get some Clan juices flowing, and H2 Vista when it gets Bootcampable.

Re: No Motivation
I now have two kids: A five year old and a 3 month old.
I turned on Animal Crossing and was greeted with a ton of weeds and a bunch of characters telling me "Wow Spiff where have you been it's been 5 months!"
Five Months!
Oh well, soon they will be at an age where we can all play together.

Wow... I am glad I'm not the only one with the lack of ambition around here
It's getting so that I spend a dozen hours a day on the computer (working, mind you
) that the last thing I want to do is even turn mine on when I get home.
I don't even seem to look in on the forums for weeks at a time anymore lol.

Re: No Motivation
I'm at the same place myself. I miss the action and comeraderie of the old UT days. I've been playing WoW, but I haven't gotten any of my toons past level 35-40 or so, and I just can't hang with my [MA] siblings who started a year before I did. I haven't even fired *that* up very frequently over the past few weeks (and I'm letting my sub run out for a bit...it's up in a few days).
I actually miss playing Star Wars: Battlefront II (the flying bit, anyhow), but my PC took a dive on me about 9 months ago, and I never bothered to get it running again. I just got an iMac Core Duo, so maybe I'll install Winders on that and game a bit...I dunno. I sold my Mac copy of UT2K4 a while back, when I had a Mac that could barely play it. I still have the Win version, though.
Also, until a couple of months ago, I was getting my gaming fix at work, playing Desert Combat (BF1942 mod) for an hour a day at lunch. Now that I'm at my new job, I barely have time to wipe my nose, let alone play a game.
Ah. Such is life. I'm sure I'll get back to it eventually.
Maybe.

Re: No Motivation
The only gaming I really do lately is when I can fit it in at work, most of my coworkers come in on Friday nights & we play either Day of Defeat or Counterstrike. Gaming at home is limited, mostly because I take care of the kids during the day and work at night.
The desire is there, just no time.

I relate there. Between meat life, working in/on hardware upgrades and other extra concerns, I haven't gamed on PC since Feb. At all. Eek, argh & bleah- man does not live by Xbox alone.
Certainly not this one.
