using my laptop as a monitor for ps2
Hi. So I checked through the forums and didnt find anything on this.
I travel quite often and most hotels will not let you plug in your playstation to their tv. They have a lock on the aux station.
So I was wondering if there is a way to use my powerbooks screen as if it was a tv for use with my ps2.
Im not trying to connect online for gaming just use it like its a tv screen.

Re: using my laptop as a monitor for ps2
I've been trying to find an answer to this same question-I think I posted in the main forum, but didn't really get a definitive answer.
The only obvious solution seems to be a TV tuner form Elgato: www.elgato.com
Two of their models specifically state they have a "Game Mode" that supposedly eliminates the latency/delay added when running through a TV tuner on a computer. (The EyeTV EZ and 250.)
The problem is, from a link posted on that other thread, it sounds like the EX at least still has SOME latency-not as bad as earlier products, but still bad enough to be noticible.
Unfortunatly no one on here seems to have acutally used one of these for games. I'm wondering if the 250 is better, or if maybe the type of hardware you have matters (ie a faster system might have no perceptible latency?). Or maybe it's just impossible to do it without lag through USB?
I don't know, but I hope someone who knows for sure can post, or you'll post anything you find out!

Right. I saw the eyeTV products at the apple store recently and thought those might be a solution. In the f.a.q. on the site they say: "EyeTV Wonder and EyeTV EZ have a very small delay (a fraction of a second), and therefore are suitable for video game play."

I also found an article saying EyeTV EZ was the way to go..

Hope this helps us both!

Yeah. If you end up getting one, please post with the results! I'm just put off by the "fraction of a second" delay. If it's noticible I think it would bother me too much.

Re: using my laptop as a monitor for ps2
I recently read IMG's review of Elgato's EyeTV EZ. Link They gave it a 9, but I also read the reader reviews. The last review, made by Guidoxx, had this to say about the EZ.
I would NEVER recommend EyeTV EZ for playing games. The $50 much pricey EyeTV 250 is the perfect fit for anyone interested in serious gaming and recording, and I can say this having seen a EyeTV 250 at work. Gaming was wonderful, even on a G4. EyeTV Ez is only che little power-performance capped brother. So, if you're interested in a DVR, a real one, get the 250 and pass on the EZ.

Re: using my laptop as a monitor for ps2
So elgato released EyeTV hybrid. Its a usb device with uncompressed analog video signals with zero latency.

Sounds good Ill try this one.
Anyone had any luck with the other eyetv devices?
