The Best PC To Demo Vista According To Microsoft(from Macbidouille)

eek - MB Pro: The Best PC To Demo Vista According To Microsoft - Lionel - 10:10:56

Uneasysilence reports that Microsoft has been using a MacBook Pro to demonstrate Office 2007 running on Vista.
http://files.macbidouille.com/news/200607/177274198_585738d91e_d.jpg

This is probably the best way to recognize the superior quality of Apple notebooks, even though Apple might not like it so much to be used to run Vista.
It is likely that BootCamp will be discontinued with Leopard to promote a more integrated system that will make Vista running inside Mac OSX.

Also reported in The Register.

My bet is against Apple incorporateing virtualization into the OS. I think they will leave it to 3rd parties.

I think it's called "upgrading"

Ashamed of?  What gives you that impression?  The fact that they dropped support to make money?  How "business-like" of them. hmm

Re: The Best PC To Demo Vista According To Microsoft(from Macbidouille)

BootCamp gives Apple a tenable position when dealing with Microsoft as both a minor software competitor from which they can swipe ideas and a potential source of customers. Virtualization (like that seen with Parallels) has a a similar effect. A WINE-like approach has the drawback of putting them in more direct competition with Microsoft which at this point is probably not a good idea.

WTF?!  confused

Teh Parallels doesn't do graphics.

Re: The Best PC To Demo Vista According To Microsoft(from Macbidouille)

The only thing that could make me really happy is if we could have OS X on one partition, Windows on another, the ability to boot into both separately, the ability to run one inside the other (Windows in OS X, OS X inside Windows) off the HD (Not some virtual partition that can't be booted from. Like how Parallels/VPC works.) at near-full speed and the ability to have both running at the same time (One on each processor) with the ability to network them to each-other and switch between them ala Fast User Switching.

THAT would be the ultimate seamless integration of OS X and Windows short of actually integrating a WINE type system to run Windows apps along side OS X and vice-versa.

One can dream, right? I can't wait to get a new iMac, and I hope when 10.5 comes out most of the above is true.

Aaaaand, it will be easier to get your work done if you don't have to reboot to use an app on the other OS.

Or were you kidding? A little joke-y joke.

Is tito ever serious? Maybe he is in a very messed up way.

But I can argee with you on that one. Who wants to reboot? You have to completely get back up to steam and build a new work flow. I think parrallels is a much better option.

Thinking about this in the long term, running two operating systems, side by side or otherwise, is silly.

Re: The Best PC To Demo Vista According To Microsoft(from Macbidouille)

What is silly about it?

I'm using some Mac only program to do something, all of a sudden I need to switch to AutoCAD or some other Windows only program. Sure, I'll quit everything and reboot. It would be silly to have an easy way to switch to Windows without having to reboot. Yeah.

Sorry about that, I'm referencing the fact that it would be nice to have one OS which ran everything. Under one common GUI, et al.

Re: The Best PC To Demo Vista According To Microsoft(from Macbidouille)

Well that would be nice too, but having both running at the same time would be the next best thing. Obviously there could be dual-duty. The same OS able to be booted both within OS X (Off the partition. Not off a fake "partition" file like VPC and Parallels.) and separtately on one of the other processors. (I mean really, can't some computer company come up with a technology to split a dual processor into two separate ones and have each do the duty of a different set of commands. i.e. OS X using one and Windows using another. Or two each for Quad processor computers. I refuse to believe it couldn't be possible.)

I hope I was clear. Plus how cool would it be to really be able to use a cube effect to go between OS X and Windows and be able to brag to your Windows zealot friends. Huh? Huh? It's be neato boss cool if you ask me.

Plus, gamers would be happy.

Another feature they could do is make dual monitor computers run one OS on one side and another on the other with an intuitive switch between function. (Key press would send the mouse and keyboard control from one OS to the other on the other screen. Like a virtual KVM switch.)

I really need to stop dreaming these outrageous dreams.

I think that would be a safe bet. Industry analyst Charles Wolf recently talked to Phil Schiller:

Article wrote:

“I am so pleased to see [Apple promoting Parallels],” said Wolf. “I had a talk with Phil Schiller at the opening of the 5th Avenue Apple Store, and I asked him the question, ‘will Apple include a virtualization solution in [the next version of Mac OS X] Leopard.’ He said ‘absolutely not, the R&D would be prohibitive and we’re not going to do it. Our solution is dual boot.’ When I saw Parallels come out, I thought Apple would dis it, but this page suggests that Apple will actively support it.”
