4GB RAM in Intel iMac
Its possible. This has probably been covered before, but I just came across this whilst shopping for RAM. The memory sticks cost more than the computer. In the words of Chappelle, goddamn!
I did end up getting 2 1GB Corsair RAM sticks from newegg.

Wow, 1200 bucks for ram. Not worth it IMHO.
Need help with php/mysql web applications such as phpNuke, phpBB, Invision, Mambo, etc? Just message me via either PM or AIM.

Perhaps when Merom ships, it will be more appealing.
It is an odd thing, but every one who disappears is said to be seen at San Francisco. It must be a delightful city, and possess all the attractions of the next world.

I hope that Merom is 64bit and the machines based on it have more RAM slots.

For the simple minded (me), does this mean my 20" core duo iMac can be stuffed with 4GB?!?!?!

Re: 4GB RAM in Intel iMac
and how many applications can actually make use of more than 1G of RAM?

Yes, if you are willing to shell out $3400. 4GB is the maximum amount of RAM a 32 bit processor can support. 2GB(2x1GB) only cost me $184 with shipping from Newegg. I'm guessing the 2GB chips are limited production or just cost a ton to produce.

Games, pro apps...but mostly games.

Re: 4GB RAM in Intel iMac
if the operating system sees the 4 gigs then whether any single application recognizes it is not necessarily the deciding factor.
the operating system can then load a couple of applications that can see 2 gigs, or more applications if necessary, without paging out to the drive.
yes?
...and watch out for the flying meat!

Re: 4GB RAM in Intel iMac
prolly is.. i haven't spent the bucks for an upgrade and just have CS.
4G would let most people flex the muscles even if PS ate 2G.

Re: 4GB RAM in Intel iMac
has any one actually put these in an iMac to see if the work? I have a G4 mini and I thought I would be slick and put in a 2 GB stick and it would not boot 1 GB was the max.
I could be limited by what the board can handle not the 32 bit system
