I heard it was pretty bad, and from a very unbiased source:

I don't know what the future holds,
But I'll be waiting, proud and bold.

From what I have seen it looks a bit too over blown and has too many special FX.

It's one of those movies that either you hate it or love it. I loved it. It was pure pwnage.

That's pretty much what the movie is about. The plot really has little depth, it's mostly just suppose to be an "entertaining" movie that's "fun" to watch (at least, that's how I interpreted the first one).
Without it's over-the-topness and special effects, it would have nothing (except Kiera).

well-put.
i think that's what the majority of the reviewers lose sight of: this movie (and others like it) aren't built around the notion that a deep plot and thought-provoking intellectualism are necessary... they're entertainment, created to entertain the masses and in effect, get them out of the normal, dreary, day-to-day grind.
at least that's why i go. of course, i do enjoy the deep-plot-intellectual films every once in awhile as well. but you see my point.
suck it, trebek.

I totally disagree with you on the whole no plot thing. Have you seen the second one? Yeah, it shoots that statement down.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
I didn't like it as much as I thought. Some of the special effects were badly animated and the characters didn't seem to have the same passion that they had in the first one. Something happens at the end of the movie (I won't spoil) that made me question if the writers had even seen the first movie.
It was alright. I wish we'd saved date night for a nice dinner instead, though and gotten this when it comes out on DVD.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Yeah some of it was odd, and I didn't enjoy Sparrow's "tricks" as much in this one, but I still liked it. Wasn't as good as the first, but then again, not many sequels are.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Haven't seen it yet. All of my friends have liked it and want to go back to see it again, it's that good. Apparently. I liked the first one -- though it went on for a bit longer than I preferred. I guess I'll go see it sometime.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
only my 15 year old daughter could get me to it.
too long
a few laughs
and the end is known about 30 minutes before it happens.
and yes, i can only hope my child can drive herself when the 3rd comes out.
my vote is neutral.

If was a fun matinee. I wish it had a teeny-tiny bit less action and a little more plot, but like others have said, it's just supposed to be summer entertainment.
It was certainly better than most other movies out lately, though that's not saying much.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
I loved it. It was exactly what it was supposed to be: lots of action and wise cracking, just enough plot to move things along.
There was only one scene that I thought the special effects were really badly done, and there was also a bit too much rolling around in general.
The effects that bring Davy Jones and his crew to life have to be the most effective and realistic I have ever seen.
This is one of the rare movies where I am glad they spent more time fleshing out effects, than plot. It's meant to be a thrilll ride, and it was, for me anyway. I'm looking forward to the third, although I expect it to be heavier on Geoffrey Rush, and lighter on Johnny Depp.

Re: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Can't say until it's really finished.
What they did was make a continuous movie like Lord of the Rings.
It is fun, but incomplete at this point.
I do love when Elizabeth chains him to the ship, and he just smiles and says, "Pirate".
A little bit of character development!!!!
